Just a fantastic book! If book one reminded me somewhat of Eragon mixed with Dragonlance, this one is reminding me instead of such authors as Tad Williams or Kate Elliott. Loving the way the world feels lived in, ancient, and full of yet to be told histories and legends. Great character work too. This is such an incredible follow up to a really good series opener.

It's mindblowing to me that I think this book is far from being the greatest series opener I've ever read, but something about it captivates me like little else. This is generic, tropey fantasy set in a world that just BURSTS with life and potential. It feels basic, but it's my second read of it this year and I just keep on feeling addicted. Could this be the best 7/10 ever?

I feel like I'm taking forever to read books this year. But you know what? I've not suffered for it! Dragonfly In Amber is leisurely paced, beautifully written, and highly detailed; in fact it seems written to be savoured, not rushed. I love this book, these characters and this author.

Michael Smith is 51% done with War and Remembrance (The Henry Family, #2)

I've been reading this book for almost exactly twelve months. This is because this book is a massive undertaking. It is heavy, both physically and narratively, but it also has a warmth to it, examining an American family closely during war time. A magnificent work, one I dare not rush.
