This is such an absorbing book. Feels slower than previous volumes, with plenty of time to soak in the details of the new setting and get a feel and understanding of the time they live in.

Outstanding.

This could be my new favourite King novel, or at the very least a close second to The Stand.

Nearing the halfway point of this outstanding novel, wondering why it is not as spoken about as the likes of Salem's Lot or The Shining. I can honestly say this book is as great as his first four novels (at least those published under the King banner).

It took me about 40 pages to really get into this book. Now I can't put it down. King is fantastic.

Well, I came across this author and wondered if she might be for me. Her books, at least in the UK, have the look of cheesy romances fit for a holiday read. But her writing is pristine, her historical research is impeccable and the character writing is strong. So far, so very, very good.

This book tackles difficult historical subject matters very boldly.

I feel sickened by what I read, I feel Diana Gabaldon is doing a very good job, but I can't say this would be very entertaining for many.

This is so, so good! Gosh, this series just gets more and more addictive. It also gets wilder with every volume. Everything about this series has me hooked.

Why this isn't revered as highly as Tolstoy, Hemingway, or even Follett, I will never understand.

This is a HUGE book. It's also the longest time I've ever spent reading a single volume (I started this second novel in the duology in November '22), but I have no regrets. Its a weighty tome, and rewards patience and slow, attentive reading. It's definitely a masterpiece, and one I will read again.

The first chapter alone was a fantastic read. Highland ghost stories, a hanging, drunken laughter, and memories of a fallen friend?

Just a wonderful opening to a new volume. This series appears to only get better, and Diana a whole lot more confident.
