Different to the other books in the series this one centers around the Diplomatic Service. In a way it reminds me a bit of the Special Circumstances units in Iain M Bank's Culture novels, albeit without the REALLY big stick backing them up.

I was lucky enough to be at the book launch of this one back in 2013. Got to meet John Scalzi and get an autographed copy:) Just picked up 'The End of All Things' so now I'm going to complete the series.

I am finding the way the primitive people think in modern terms a bit hard to get used to.

The premise of this may be a bit far fetched, but I'm liking it.

I'm wondering which of my book shelves I should put this one in; Historical Fiction, Fantasy or Science Fiction?

This one has very mixed reviews so I'm guessing it's not a 3 star book :)

Part of my enjoyment of these books comes from looking up all the locations on Google maps and street view. Sadly (or maybe not depending on how you look at it) the Heygate Estate in Southwark was demolished in 2014 but you can still find plenty of pictures.

Wow, the pace of this book really picks up around the half way mark.

It's been raining so much in California that I am getting homesick for England :) Finally got this one after being #1 on the library hold list forever.

It was looking like this caper was going to go according to plan.. then an unexpected twist sent the plan out into left field.

Interestingly he uses the real name of the city of Norwich, but has subtly changed all the other place names.

Several POV's at the start and even this far in I can see these are all on collision course.

Set in the area where I grew up with subtle changes to the place names.

This novella fits between books 2 and 3 so I'm reading this before starting on book 3 of the series.

Still dubious about the science behind this one but loving the hunt for Genghis Khan's tomb. Problem is I keep hearing William Shatner's voice in my head yelling "Kahhhhnnn!"

Read the Kindle sample.. debating whether to buy the complete book.

I have 'Creaking Wooden Sailing ship' and 'Storm at Sea' relaxation soundtracks that I listen to while reading this type of book:)

Borrowed this from the library to fill in the gap before a sequence of 10 I got from Amazon for $0.99

A bit predictable but I am still enjoying it, even though I am not sure where the story is going.

May be a bit far fetched but Rollins sure knows how to write a page turning thriller.

The clue to a cold case is a skull, found among the 3,000,000 others in the Paris catacomb!

Started off really strong but slowed down a bit now.

Just getting into this but the premise seems a little far fetched so far.

This should be called 'That Hideous Book' :-)

The setup was a bit cliche and reminded me of The Sparrow.
