a simple spell check would have caught this shit. pathetic.

a. this has some obvious ocr scanning errors that a professional publisher should have cleaned up before asking for money for this.
b. i really hate when mysteries depart from the detective's point of view

This reads very... oddly? Something's just off, it's hard to say what's down to the translation, or the period when it was written, or deliberate choice by the author. It's not bad, but definitely doesn't grab me.

warming up to this. don't really care for most of the supporting cast, but now that it's more focused on the mystery it's holding my interest better. could do with less of the flashback/origin story stuff though.

best uf I've read by far I think. pleasantly surprised to see lesley (swear it was leslie in a previous book) being tutored by nightingale and not a student of the mysterious evil wizard. even the side chars are very engaging.

the murder's much closer to home than I expected for some reason, but so far this is very good.
