kind of slow. can't recall off hand if everything else I've read by de Bodard was like this, but it wouldn't surprise me. feels like a stylistic thing, wasting too much space on description. and of course the names are challenging.

Archer's oogling the women a bit more than I typically notice. The lechery in these these old PI novels seems almost obligatory sometimes. But he's actually having pleasant interactions with the woman the next day, which I don't particularly recall before, it's almost sweet.

liking this much better than the previous Archer book

Either GR is just determined to randomly add additional "read" dates with no dates when I shelve something, or I am somehow clicking something somewhere to do it because of some very poor UI design choices.
