Wow, out of the many quotes Rick has incorporated into his book, this one really stood out. “Knowing too much of your future is never a good thing.” (297) This quote really tells us that it's not always good to know what your future is going to be like, showing us that you should live in the now, not in the past or future. Focus on what you are currently doing and good things will come. Many deep lessons produced.

Decided to reread this book for fun. Percy is such a deep character with many in depth quotes describing how he wants to live his life. For example “If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself.” (189) this shows just how independent Percy is as an individual. And how goal orientated and in charge of his life. Great characteristics of a future hero and son of a god!

Jem has a whole new attitude. "'Why couldn't I mash him?' I asked. 'Because they don't bother you,' Jem answered in the darkness. He had turned out his reading light."(243)Scout was preparing to "mash" a rolypoly and Jem stopped her. He demonstrates a desire to protect anything that does no harm. He witnessed the innocent Tom Robinson suffer humiliation and death, and feels he needs to protect everything he can.

Scout, taught way beyond her age teaches uncle jack. "I know. Your daughter gave me my first lessons this afternoon. She said I didn't understand children much and told me why. She was quite right. Atticus, she told me how I should have treated her-oh dear, I'm so sorry I romped on her."(87)This shows how Atticus has brought scout up instilling wisdom and compassion beyond her years. She basically teaches uncle jack.

Jem and Scout have had a close playmate relationship. However as Jem grows older the difference between their ages show as he acts more superior to her. "That's because you can't hold something in your mind but a little while,' said Jem. It's different with grown folks, we-' His maddening superiority was unbearable these days..."(138) Scout understands that Jem feels superior towards her, and it's frustrating.

I am so perplexed and fascinated with the way Atticus handles the Tom Robinson case. He leads the witness to answer the answer he wants, and the way he treats them is so "heroic" in contrast to Mr. Gilmer who I feel is portrayed as the villain. The way he speaks and acts towards the witnesses. ""You felt sorry for her, you felt sorry for her?" (124) Mr. Gilmer seemed ready to rise to the ceiling." A prime example,

Scout gets in trouble when she demonstrates she can read and write. "Your father does not know how to teach. You can have a seat now.' I mumbled that I was sorry and retired meditating upon my crime." (17) Scout even apologizes and referred to her ability as a crime. This exchange demonstrates how many people in Maycomb are very small minded in their views, and how uneducated they really are, a crime for knowing!

Wow this genetically damaged stuff is really getting to Tobias. He wants to truly believe he's not damaged (he's not) but the people around him are so casual about it like he is that he's going crazy about it. However he keeps true to himself believing he is in fact not damaged. "I am not a desperate unsteady child who throws his trust around. I am not damaged" this shows how he really wants and needs to believe.

Tris really is a selfless person. Always putting a cause or person before herself. “There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater." (178) This really shows how selfless she is.

Wow, they've just learned that they have been in actual captivity for all their lives without knowing it, and when they come out to the real world they're scared. Tris, who is a dauntless, is scared! "As the truck passes they squawk and scatter into the air. This is a wild world. Just like that it is too much for me to bear." (110) this really shows the enclosed life they've been living, never really experiencing.

Woah, Six is tricky! She invited John's girlfriend on a super dangerous mission probably to spite john because of their secret kiss! John describes her as a "six is a bit of a loose cannon and I can't predict what she might do next." This really shows how six, if need be can be a really tricky person. She secretly invites his girlfriend without asking him, and this creating a tense atmosphere. Very sneaky...

Reading the "Catcher in the Rye" in this era in contrast to when it was written is truly fascinating! For example J.D. writes about a situation where Holden's younger sister is asked by her mother if she was smoking a cigarette, even though she did not she lied and said yes, however the reaction was what got me! "I don't like that Pheobe I don't like that at all!" (177) was all the reprimand she got, a 10 year old!

The author, J.D. Salinger incorporated some very interesting vocabulary of the time. A couple words that were used were "grand" or "terrific" words nowadays you hear almost no one say! "My mother has terrific taste in some things.."(160) "oh how grand! marvelous!" (89) this shows how J.D. used the vocabulary of his era. Really interesting to see how much things change and develop, the evolution of vocabulary.

Catcher in the rye so far has been a great book! The tone and vocabulary used my main character Holden is just so fascinating because it's used as in the era, the era of 1946. Words such as "sonuvabitch" or "whaddya" and "willya" and countless others add to the generic atmosphere of the 1940s. "Whaddya mean so what, I told you it had to be a godamn house or something."(40) this shows just how different language was.

A short story but so far a very interesting one. “When you don't want to be somewhere and there is no way to get your body out of the situation, your brain sometimes packs a bag and thumbs a ride anywhere it can go.” (98) is a amazing quote I got from this book. It's so true! When your in a scenario where maybe like class you can physically leave, a lot of people drift off and daydream, totally relatable!

Mary is a very self-centered girl with the looks to "die for" (unknowingly self-centered).She shows this when the book says "she hadn't wanted to speak first. She had wanted to stand there and smirk prettily as he unveiled a turquoise Tiffany's box.."(43) this shows how no matter what is going on, she always has to keep an appearance. She wants them to remember it's her bday but she doesn't want to say it. Appearance.

Anne frank endured many hardships yet kept a positive perspective of life. One quote, “No one has ever become poor by giving.”(158)really shows how she's always thinking about giving and helping others, even when she is the one in need of help. This quote also means that by giving we're not hurting ourselves, no one has ever become poor by giving. Meaning giving is always good no matter what. Anne Frank positive.

Anne shares many life lessons, one lesson that I really liked was “Whoever is happy will make others happy.” (103) this shows and means that if a person is happy, they can pass it on. Happiness is contagious! I really feel inspired by Anne b/c even though she's experiencing these hard times she can always find the silver lining in an otherwise black tunnel. As an athlete Muhammad's quotes are very helpful, however one quote really hit a big home for me. “If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it - then I can achieve it.” (198) this quote means that if you understand it, and you believe that you can do it, then you can make it happen. Many times athletes have only 2/3 of the requirements. This quote shows that you need to have all 3 to really achieve it

In The Soul of a Butterfly, Muhammad teaches us morals, themes and messages. One message “We can't be brave without fear,”(66) is one that I really agree with. This message means that you have to accept and embrace your fear for once you have done this you're truly brave. All brave people have fear, however what makes them brave is that they keep this fear with them and accept it. Without fear we would all brave.
