Wow, they've just learned that they have been in actual captivity for all their lives without knowing it, and when they come out to the real world they're scared. Tris, who is a dauntless, is scared! "As the truck passes they squawk and scatter into the air. This is a wild world. Just like that it is too much for me to bear." (110) this really shows the enclosed life they've been living, never really experiencing.

Wow this genetically damaged stuff is really getting to Tobias. He wants to truly believe he's not damaged (he's not) but the people around him are so casual about it like he is that he's going crazy about it. However he keeps true to himself believing he is in fact not damaged. "I am not a desperate unsteady child who throws his trust around. I am not damaged" this shows how he really wants and needs to believe.

Tris really is a selfless person. Always putting a cause or person before herself. “There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater." (178) This really shows how selfless she is.
