A bit dramatic, (but what good revenge plot isn't?), but wow, this is such a good story. I love how the Count is now just seeing that he probably went too far... Proves that despite his over written, and honestly a bit exaggerated foresight and knowledge and cleverness, he's still human...

Yep...not a big surprise that V for Vendetta references this book... V reminds me ALOT of the Count...Spectral, phantom like, and almost ghost like when he wants to be...

So... like with all great revenge novels....I wonder if the seeker has lost sight of why he is seeking it...

Boy... the families...in particular the Dangalars have *such* a healthy marriage and relationship...

Okay this is getting a tad…over the top with the drama and scheming. I enjoy Monte Cristo as a character…but this "master plan" is getting a bit "mustache twirling" in my opinion…Character foils that make the plot designer into too much of an omniscient genius, outsmarting everyone with his master scheme....

Hmm starting to get difficult keeping track of all of the grudges and characters who hate others because of X, Y, and Z...

Haha, I love the perfectly charming acts that the count acts on the Danglers and Villeforts... Just so overly perfect

As much as I want to route for the Count, he's sort of a dick towards his 'servants'... He's our protagonist, and has been through a lot I know..but he's not exactly the most sympathetic or polite

Ahh and there is the monologue of revenge and how and eye for an eye is needed and warranted when a man underdoes the deep torture of being deprived of a wife, family, father, mother and happiness. No quick execution or duel would suffice... I was wondering when would be brought up and returned on..

Hmm my only complaint is that this suffers a tad from the Moby Dick syndrome of going off on character tangents...I have no idea how or why we're following the life and times of Albert and Franz...I like them as characters, but I don't see how they affect the overall story at this point...

So the truly wicked and evil have become rich and powerful, and the good amongst Dante's earlier life have all fallen on illness and poverty... I rarely have been actually really touched by the writing of emotion. But the chapter with Moralles and his near suicide and confronting his family and especially his son Maxmillion really gave me pause and actually struck a nerve...The arrival of the Pharaon left me smiling

...and how on earth does Caderousse know the exact events of everyone's lives during the 16 years? lol, like literally things that happened in private ...

So after near 16 years, when he returns...everyone still has like a perfect memory of the night and life of Dantes lol. Describing details in perfect clarity... and emotions still linger with them as if it happened yesterday..

14 years...he has one hell of a good excuse to be a bit gripey with Danglars and Villefort

Hold the phone...SIX years after he's arrested...Dantes JUST now recalls that Danglars, may have been spurred to betray him? And it took the mad man Faria to drag it out of him? How naive is Dantes? xD

Everyone is "moved" by Dantes, and likes him, but ends up wronging and double crossing him anyway...by the time this book is done he'll have to get revenge on the entire cast!

Napoleon is so villified here!! "Love how they refer to him as "the usurper" Glad I got the unabridged version of this.... Seriously with "friends" like the ones that Dantes has apparently, who needs enemies!

Damn, for someone so charismatic, and beloved, Dantes managed to pissed 3 people off, and get them to conspire to kill / imprison him on his first day back...I shudder to think what would happen in a week's time??

I love how Dantes visits his father in France, and nevermind his appearance and the fact that he nearly falls over...but it's the fact that he has no wine in his house is what tips him off that something is amiss!

Also with a large dose of Stepford Wives tossed in...

Wow, reminds me a cross up between The Man in the High Castle, and 1984...

Please be better than the last string of book's I've been tortured with...

An attempt to be clever with only the slightest bit of interest at the end... please be over soon...I learned my lesson... D:

Hmm well like ALL of the Alastair Reynolds books I've read, this one is starting out very interesting. That being said they ALL have also let me down vastly by the middle/end.... We'll see...

My re-read... I dare say, that despite it being a commitment to re-read the Expanse books...it's really worth the effort, you pick up on stuff and it really solidifies the characters a bit more. Especially if you're watching the TV series. It brings to light the differences in writing and style of both mediums

The more I'm reading, the less and less I'm routing for the "Loonies"... well atleast the Professor. He seems more maniacal at this point and is becoming obsessed. Very myopic view, and he seems to be way to eager to sacrifice others to achieve his own view...

Really surprised with how interesting this book is. The dynamic between Terra and Luna is really realistic feeling. I'm enjoying the "declaration" by the Loonies has pretty much fallen flat and in fact actually backfired at this point.

So... one of Manny's wives..is ..his mom...who he sleeps with...Anyone else not vomiting a little bit at the incesteus implications of the multi wife/husband dynamics in this book??

Thanks to Reddit, was told that this sci-fi classic bears a tiny tiny political/socio similarity to the theme of The Expanse series... So far, it's..interesting, may not be the best choice to read purely audio though .
