I've been on a roll with novels lately so I think I'm going to give this behemoth of a book a chance.

Now I remember why I stalled here. Honestly this book should've already been over. We've gone through the climax but there's still 150 pages or so to go. It just feels awkward; like the party is already over but some people haven't left yet.

Apparently this month is for finishing books I set aside.

I'll say one thing, this is nowhere near as flowery as I thought it'd be. I feel like Shiver was worse but it's also possible that I have a terrible memory.

Valyn's Wing crew are exactly who I was hoping for. This should be fun.

The thing I like about this book is that it has a very complicated world with lots of characters and unfamiliar terms and whatnot but it's not confusing. I don't feel like I'm lost but there also isn't any hand-holding. It's clever yet simple and easy to digest.

I somehow completely missed that this is a retelling of The Phantom of the Opera. Honestly though this is a retelling of The Phantom of the Opera as much as Cinder is a retelling of Cinderella; just the structure is there.

Of course the red-headed Noors are the troublemakers.

This book has such an interesting premise. So far it's about a middle class girl forced to be a physician's assistant to her father, who is a doctor onsite at a factory/slaughterhouse, taking place in an urban fantasy world where white people are the lowest class and considered to be barbarians. Oh, and at some point there should be a ghost. 👻
