There is so much that's disturbing here, and none of it has to do with the zombies. The snapshot glimpses into human nature, how it goes into extremes under duress, regardless of origin, say so much about us. That it is fiction only makes reality sadder, for this fiction is built from the patterns we have historically established, and that, it seems, we are doomed to repeat endlessly.

Zombie stuff aside, if it wasn't because this was published in the early 2000s, I would say all they did was fictionalize the chain of events of the Covid pandemic. The fact they didn't, that this is supposed to be a fictional account, scares me more than any living dead could.

Book 1 - let's go.

Yes, it's taking forever to read this, but how can it not?

It's eerie and downright scary how this, written in the mid-2000s, parallels the COVID pandemic timeline.

Stepping outside my usual box with this one, but the survivor's interview angle it takes (as opposed to the zombipalooza that was the movie) appealed to me.

Just because they're predictable doesn't mean they're not entertaining. I like these characters, especially Sasha.

Seems I just needed a fluffy book to get me out of my slump, so why not one about Paris?

Chapter 3 and I'm absolutely hooked. The setting has special significance for me, but Bardugo wastes no time in ensnaring you with the stakes at hand.

I've been waiting for this book for months, finally got it from the library, and it's not hitting as I thought it would. It's well-written, and I'm intrigued by the story, but it hasn't hooked me yet. It hasn't turned me away yet, either, so I'm still going.

Okay, now I understand why they broke it into two movies.
