The interest in mechanical systems, the binary numbers in place of section dividers, the ability to eat carbs without thinking about eating carbs, the lack of interest in teenagers, fake social graces, and desire to be free, and now she using a soldering iron for fun? I am so in love with this book. Holy shit, where the fuck was this when I was 17!?!?

Why did I only just find out there was an audiobook version read by Stephen Fry?

I'm not sure that a book which assures the reader twice in the first three pages that the heroine isn't "dull and brown" is the sort of thing I want to hand to my niece. Maybe this is a lovely book, but it isn't what I'm looking for.

I'm certainly not equipped to nor interested in quibbling about the quantum mechanics of this one. But the logistics just don't fucking work. If a door in the factory opens to anywhere that isn't the factory, and of one in four units shipped don't work, you are out of business no matter how cheap your labor or lax your waste management.

I think these will go to my niece next year. Hopefully, her grandmother won't read them. I don't think this style of hilarious violence is something she'd approve of children reading.
