so. I do not believe for an instant Erikson's MBOTF to be grimdark. I am beginning to feel the Kharkanas trilogy is.

I must rest my weary head now. let lie my mind, numbed (benumbed?), yet spinning, whirling, transcending, a cosmic bovine ruminating upon the wondrously woefully potent cud that is the Azanthi and Elder Races -- who all are not so far removed as well mortals blindly convince ourselves.

I pray there are some moments of illusionary comedy amidst this woeful tragedy.

this is a wine and fireplace read, curled up in the barcalounger, solitary against the miserable world. I've but scratched the surface of this one, and my soul already sobs and rages against all the vile machinations. Damn you, Steven!

just read the plot to use Anomander. bastards. betrayal in the guise of love must be the worst of all despicableness.

rollicking along, good to be back among old companions. a few times it took a bit to connect names and memories, to recall certain nuances. quite interesting and entertaining progression in story and some character arcs, over halfway through this final book and still not sure of the close or how we'll get there, so the mystery is delicious. not quite as smooth or taut a storytelling as the last two books though.

illuminating, often interesting, take on Biblical truths within Hebrew meanings.

"Aye, his name will be unforgotten while the world stands." is an aim worth shooting for. I'd like that.

epic saga storytelling at some of its finest. lots of doing, action galore, results and repercussions following in spades. dastardly deeds & manly moves done by males & females, all reaping what they sow. big blades, big arms, big words, big lives. read and enjoy the raw!

Can't not read "a keening, blood-rimed tale of men who walked like gods"!

thus far more disappointing than entertaining. a few fun tales, but most are actually silly, if you can believe it.

reading this one off an on as the mood hits. nothing spectacular thus far, most of these tales are ho-hum, unfortunately.

Absolutely terrific book! Very impressed with Coach Dungy-his humbleness, faithfulness, persistence, gratefulness. Spectacular example of transformational leadership. He precedes each chapter with a quote, and this from his mother CleoMae Dungy is very thought-provoking: “Excellence that feels it has to be proclaimed, by the mere fact of its proclamation admits the doubt of its existence.”

20 pages in and it's simply astounding! everyone should read and contemplate what Coach Dungy has been able to impart in such few pages and mostly by reminiscing about his parents. heart and soul of everything good can be found right here.

Just finished Chapter 17. Overall a grand tale, this reading in snippets is intriguing, sometimes perfect, sometimes frustrating, like today - I want to read more! I'm enjoying the characters, 2 or 3 especially, and the story is enticingly mysterious. Give it a look!

um, sorry, I goofed. thought I was reading this one, actually reading number 2, The Marvelous Land of Oz.

Finally getting to this. Moved to Spokane, walked to my local library, made this the first book I checked out. Really enjoyed book #1, but actually liked book #2 better, looking forward to finding out where this one falls.

Gemmell's Morrigu description of man resonates so strongly today, my soul ached when I read it: "[Y]our minds are small and filled with pettiness. You make everything small to match your own lack of understanding." That last just rocks me with its spot-on-ed-ness of so many mortals today, from those I personally know to those I know of to those I know not at all. it is a sorrowful truth.

The explanation by the Morrigu regarding the dearth and decay of spirit as the cause for the slow, painful death of the earth is astounding. Power-packed paragraphs here crystallize the reminiscence of Howard's take on the difference between barbarism and civilization that has shadowed much of the two novels in this omnibus. Stark contract between the freedom of one character versus the shallowness of another.

Will be finishing this one up this week as we head into the last 3 chapters. The middle chapters were the strongest thus far, delivering short, sweet, strict guidance. The last few chapters have clearly defined the line between pursuit accomplishment and failure as being entirely on my shoulders. Rather intimidating.

So I am in book 2 of the omnibus, MIDNIGHT FALCON. At first I was slightly disappointed to move on to the children of book 1 so quickly, it seemed the adults had more to accomplish. Gemmell has drawn me into this book slowly though, and I am liking the protagonist much more than I did at first. I am fearful though that something I would like to occur seems most likely to not, but I will hold out hope. Forward!

Seems a bit more simplistic than usual for a Gemmell. And a bit more of a telling rather than showing tale. Fine enough thus far, but definitely not the memorable draw of Druss.

Much stronger book in the middle chapters than at the onset. Also much more convicting in its demands.

chpts 8 & 9 by far the best. short, firm, explicit. no punches pulled.

Adare is a stupid, stupid, irritating twit. It has been a very long time since I have come to pretty much hate a character. Kaden is extremely well-drawn, while not so exciting definitely interesting to read. I want more Valyn though, I hope he's reunited with his Wing-mates. really cannot stand the petty, petty, childish Adare who has ruined so much.

um...feel-good juvenile absolutely perfect (looks, money, skills, backstory, current story, women, cars, home, horses, liquor, you name it) protagonist effortlessly perfectly pulls off everything perfectly thus far. Storyline and packaging grabbed me, but I'm only giving this one a little bit longer before tossing it into the can't-postpone-suspending-disbelief-enough-to-enjoy pile.

Pretty much the only book one needs to read to understand crime in places and what the next wave in policing strategies will/should be.
