Books 3 and 4 down. Continuing to enjoy myself immensely.

This is culminating in something so god damn satisfying it’s incredible.

Back half of book 2 was...well...yeah tedious as hell lmao. SO many names that just don't seem to matter.

However, the FIRST half of this book was absolutely brilliant. Highly enjoying myself.

Things are getting real interesting. I was a little reserved about going into this knowing it wouldn't be the main story, but I'm thoroughly enjoying atm.

Read the first 4 chapters so far. The 3rd person was a little strange since Hadrian's first person already felt iconic to this universe, but I'm liking this side thing going on.

Let's see what kinda shit goes down from here.

Read Book 1 this morning. A lot more readable than I had anticipated. Lot's of cool stuff in this. I suspect I'll overall really enjoy this thing.

Finished reading the Preface and Introduction, and I am very hype to get into the rest of the book. Got bookmarks in the Synopsis and Glossary sections at the back to be able to reference.

I'm ready :D

So...uh...still not really feeling it. There are several instances of what I see are heavy potential - scenes or moments that I really enjoy, but most of it is just kind of, falling flat for me right. Even nearly 1/5 of the way through, I'm still having to get used to the narration style and how that's framed, too. I'll give this another 70-ish pages (about 1/3 of the book), and decide if I want to pause it then D:

…not gonna lie, not clicking with me immediately. The framing device for the narrative is…almost absurdly complex, or at least it seems so at the moment.

Biting off more than I could chew was not what I anticipated to come across here lol, so hopefully resetting expectations will help it pick up.

So many sick things happening. The early Emesh portions were a little weirdly paced, but everything in the last 200 pages has been brilliant upon brilliant.

I think 2 of my 5 favorite chapters or something in the book so far have been in the bit I’ve read yesterday and this morning, including my favorite one Ch. 53: “A Game of Snake and Mongoose”.

Was making decent-ish pace on this this morning but developed a medical condition that I had to get taken care of, so I have fallen behind again lmao

Will probably remain/get even further behind the next couple days as I am going to be mostly MIA while I recover.

After a lagging weekend, I am mostly caught back up. There’s so many sort of half-twists that I don’t expect

Things picked up a little bit and I am very happy about it.

Didn’t get as much additional reading done tonight as I thought because I did a bit of writing today instead, but I’m still enjoy it. I hope to binge a good chunk of this over the weekend.

Forgot to update yesterday lol. Plan to get through another 5% or so later today as well. Pretty much finished what I think is effectively Act 1. Still very much enjoying it.

Some intriguing developments that are inching the political/world-building/character plots forward. Can’t wait to see what kind of explosive stuff starts to happen later

Really enjoying the set up and exposition so far. Much simpler learning curve than that of, say, Dune, which is a lot to swallow early on.

This one has the exact same (if not bigger) sense of scale already to me without it feeling so intimidating.

Chapter 11 was holy wtf is the point of this, but most everything else since then (I’m through chapter 15) has been really good.

Some really great stuff with several questionable decisions otherwise has been the experience.

There was an early Chapter (I think Chapter 2, *maybe* 3) that was good. The rest of Chapters 1-6 (of the Penguin Classics edition) could’ve been condensed to just 1 or 2 chapters (making the first 80 pages as short as 30-40).

Everything from Chapter 7 onward however has been rather brilliant.

Pace has been a little slower than I hoped/anticipated but hopefully some of the thematic resonance being set up so far starts to shine a bit more.

For such a short book I was thinking there’d be a bit more meat to it this early on.
