I think the Wolfhound is my favorite character... it’s a device that allows the protagonist to explain things and have conversations even though he’s mostly alone and it’s a first person narrative. It could have been awful but it’s utterly amusing and delightful.

I love the details included regarding what it’s like to be a kid.... stepping out of a shrugged off sleeping bag, clothes left on the floor, feet smashed into tied sneakers. As an adult he described himself as a serial object beater... (lol) that was amusing too but I wonder if the author is establishing how the protagonist never habituated to caring for objects?
