I love the details included regarding what it’s like to be a kid.... stepping out of a shrugged off sleeping bag, clothes left on the floor, feet smashed into tied sneakers. As an adult he described himself as a serial object beater... (lol) that was amusing too but I wonder if the author is establishing how the protagonist never habituated to caring for objects?

Super creepy and weird start... in a good way. But I’m starting to worry that the obstacles are just going to get more gruesome and unpleasant as we go... I really hope that this isn’t just a big buffet of suffering.
