Couldn’t sleep and started this book. Definitely didn’t help me sleep!!!

Loved this quote: “....the more you prettify something, the more you risk undermining its value.” ...Goes for people too?

“Everyday life does not have fewer horrors than prison.” ...and that’s coming from a woman who spent five years in prison in Iran.

I‘m reminded of when I got an engineering internship. Talking with some fellow students about summer jobs, I mentioned this internship. One responded that being a girl must have helped (‘cuz affirmative action). I told him I preferred to think it was merit. But after his comment I couldn’t help but wonder if he was right. Yet, if *he* had gotten the job, nobody would have questioned it.

Good grief this is depressing! This book is so highly rated, I hope there’s a worthwhile payoff.
