This is shaping up to be a disappointment. I bought the book. So I feel inclined to finish but praising R Kelly on page and being dismissive of the harm he did to BW from the Black FMCs perspective is nasty low vibrational work.

Whew, breathe in and breathe out. I've been there with taking your newborn to the doctor and getting shots. I never, not once, fixed my mouth to tell a nurse or medical professional to "hurry the fuck up". That's a lack of character.

honestly don't see why Fated Mates is a big deal in a shifter book 😬 . Fated mates is a big draw so for a background conflict to be "you suck for forcing us to have Fated mates", feels odd & goes against what I innately loved about the series. And are we really supposed to be upset at Amir for ::checks notes:: wanting love 😬

And this is why I fucks with Shvonne Latrice. Her books will have these tropes that I typically don't love but she writes them in such an engaging and interesting way. She doesn't follow cliches and she makes sure the character development is on point

I'm speechless and not in a good way...just in a really disappointed way. The optics would be different if Kade was a BW vs who she is. The presentation of Amir feels botched. A Black man as a strong fae entity being reduced to this was....a choice.

For the ultimate villain she sure does talk a lot. James Bond villain-style

And another thing....the time jumps are really bothering me here in ways it didn't in the other books. Kade isn't really a character I care about so the focus on her even slightly is like 😮‍💨
