I think my issue is that, more often than not, I’ve found Katee Robert’s novels painfully mediocre.

Paired with the expectations that come from her being so popular on BookTok, I’m left with a recipe for disappointment

Hmmm I'm starting to get really irritated with the FMC. She keeps leaping to these WILD conclusions, stating that this person and that person are not only involved in the death of her grandfather but actually referring to them as the murderer. It's making the FMC come across as really dumb :/

I actively, consciously read books by authors of colour and books about Black characters all year ‘round. Nevertheless, The Blood Trials seemed like an excellent choice to kick off Black History Month (in the States, it’s October here in the UK)

While some of the things Fausto says are still cringe, I found myself strangely committed to the general storyline and the relationship between him and Francesca. So, here I am halfway through book two

I’m currently doing a free month of Scribd which means guilt-free listening and trying out books I’d never, ever pay for (unless some of my mutuals with tastes I trust told me I’d love it)

This isn’t my usual read but I’m glad I’ve stuck with it

Okay so drama…. 👍 but… This still reads a basically middle grade to me. I can’t hate it for potentially being what it’s supposed to (I know it’s YA, I just mean very young YA??)

Considering I just read The Cruel Prince, I feel as if I am in a position to complain about a narrative style that feel insanely stiff 😬

This just came through on Libby. I didn’t think book one was anything special, but seeing so many of my mutuals fall in love with this series, I’m keen to see that magic for myself

So far: Classic British humour, a flawed protagonist, lots of repressed emotions

I know loads of you who I’m friends with on here hated this but I think it’s really cute 👉👈

I’ve never read a mafia romance before.

I saw one of my mutuals sobbing while reading this, and since I’m on a mission to find a book that makes me ache and shatter, I figured I’d give this a try.

So far, nothing.

Went in blind and really enjoying this so far. I wish there was more angst but hopefully the moments that make people sob are coming soon…

I love it when authors write about vocations they either know intimately because it’s their day job or they live researched the shit out of it. Yes this is a spicy why choose romance blah blah blah but the most interesting part about Lilac has been peeking behind the musical artist curtain.

Prose style hasn’t changed, nevertheless I think I’m getting used to it. I think?

It’s a lot of “this happened and then this happened and then this happened”

An interesting start but I'm really hoping the prose changes once we get into the meat of the real story (aka catch back up to the current timeline versus the MMCs backstory)

I fully get it. I want more heroines like Jude. Cardan reminds me a lot of many iterations of Draco in fanfiction so obviously I’m sold on him, too.

I think if I read this series when I was a teenager I would have made it my whole personality ♥️

(For context, I found The Flat Share exceedingly mediocre and very in line with why I always thought I disliked contemporary romance. But I'm willing to give O'Leary another go!)

It’s been an age since the opening chapter of a book grabbed me like this one did. Also, I did not expect this book to be funny. And it’s pretty funny! The whole concept is whack and ridiculous in a good way, the main character clearly has a good sense of human and she definitely doesn’t take herself too seriously

I love the way Jude thinks through problems and potential pitfalls

I’m actually listening to an early release of the audiobook! Both narrators are great

It seems like this novels received its fair share of mixed reviews but I dunno, I’m enjoying myself. The characters are sweet and their backstories are believable, I love that our FMC is a woman of colour, and that one of only two real side characters is a sisters with Down’s syndrome and she’s a delight
