I expect to take my time with this one, listening to bits here and there in between fantasy novels

Ya'll know the drill; if I'm doing chores, running errands, walking my dog, or otherwise have my hands busy but my brain free, I'm listening to an audiobook.

After a couple truly blasé reads, I cannot tell you how good it feels to dive into a book I'm EXCITED to read. Keep your fingers crossed for me xx

A steaming pile of fat-phobic, purity-culture-upholding GARBAGE.

Half-baked and half-cocked, whether it’s the prose, the “romance”, or the plot to overthrow the king, I’m embarrassed this book exists.

Not the biggest fan of the narrator. Sticking with it because everyone LOVES this queer historical romance.

How many stupid, obvious twists can you put in one book?

Way to make them all fall flat by having both your main characters react indifferently towards most of them

Le sigh.

The MMC’s outbursts/mid-coital statements have veered so beyond sexy that we’re in the territory of the ridiculous and unintentionally funny. It’s as if the author is desperate to produce quotes for instagram and TikTok edits, prioritizing that over substance.

Additionally, once again I find myself reading a romance while asking WHY these characters love one another. Lust I get. This? Nah.

Enjoying the way the narrative progresses. I wouldn’t be surprised if some people find the pacing slow; for me, it’s medium with well-spaced nuggets of insight/reveals. Solid breadcrumbing to keep you going.

Vibes are creepy and gothic and I love it

YA’LL IS THIS SO FUNNY

- excellent witty banter
- incredible narrator holy shit she’s killing it and easily making things twice as funny
- bisexual/pan MMC
- the FMC is a masc she/her and sick of being told who she *should* be

DNF’ing here. There’s no point in continuing. The story is feel like it was written by a twelve year old.

Even though other reviewers said this was all porn no plot, I’ve only just gotten to a smut scene. And it was awful. No build up, no tension. Remarkably short, emotionless, and bland.

It’s too early in the year to force myself through shitty reads. Pass.

Oh no 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ now the female narrator is speaking his lines with a lisp. I don’t care if he does or doesn’t have a lisp. Just pick and stick without for the entirely of the book

Disappointed so far. There’s nothing special or fresh about the premise.

As an audiobook, the female narrator does a good job embodying the sunshine-y southern charm of Daisy’s characterization.

The male narrator, however, has no consistency and clearly did not read the book in advance. No lisp for the entire 1st act, then a mention of a split tongue… voila: lisp 🤦🏻‍♀️

On the audiobook: Fantastic narrators. Not only are both talented, they fit the characters perfectly

I need to listen to more books by Angelina Rocca because her smoky voice is 😮‍💨

Normally I’m VERY wary of virgin MCs because they’re often portrayed in the most patronizing fashion.

Thank goodness Silver doesn’t fall into those bs trappings. I adore how Bailey’s lack of experience comes from circumstance, not because she’s a dumb, wide-eyed ingenue.

It’s two tired tropes that Silver manages to make fresh again.

I really dislike books that go ‘round in circles. Character motivations are all out of whack and when it comes to the characters themselves, they don’t jump off the page *at all*. They have a couple notes each and that’s it.

At this point, I’m just going through the motions. A big part of me wants to DNF.
