Notably, of course, when he inflates his Aunt Marge into a balloon after she bad mouthed his parents. By any measure, Harry is at his lowest point in the entire series emotionally in this book, he's endured a year of psychological and physical torture, he's watched all the responsible adults driven away, and he believes time is of the essence, so why doesn't Umbridge drop dead or turn into a toad or something?

Hmmm, it never really occurred to me before, but there's a massive plot hole in this book. Harry's just been captured in Umbridge's office, he thinks Sirius is being tortured to death, he has many MANY reasons to hate Umbridge and her inquistorial squad, and nothing happens. What I mean is, the series gives us several examples of magic spontaneously happening when Harry is pushed too far emotionally (to be continued)
