I don't think the paranormal romance/urban fantasy subgenre is for me, so I'm probably not the ideal audience for this book. I do vaguely feel like I was rocketed back in time by like two decades with this writing.

reached the heavy exposition portion. she found a book and read a few pages to tell me a bunch of world-building, now she's finally caught up with her childhood friend who's telling her everything about witches

this really isn't what I expected. it's my understanding that this is a seasoned author but it's just like... so simple? and feels really really dated.
it also took a whole moment to do that 'I bet youre wondering what I look like. well I have long, chestnut hair that boys seem to like...' thing.
also classic wish fulfillment. but her mother died and there's a lot more concentrating on that than I would've wanted

still just barely getting started in this so haven't formed real opinions yet, but the writing's really choppy. sometimes it feels like sentences are missing words or punctuation, like thoughts arent fully finished before jumping to the next one without transition. occasionally I'll flip back a few pages so I don't gaslight myself that I accidentally jumped ahead

I'm really enjoying the tone and the writing in this so far. It definitely doesn't feel like a debut and it's honestly a lot of fun.

I'm actually very enjoying this! But the ADHD is hitting too hard right now so I'll finish in the morning 😅😅

the beginning was very strong, but I feel like this patch is a bit of a lull
