ehhh, am optat pt recitire - interesant sa vad cele doua perspective complet diferite, cea de atunci si cea de acum. Cadrul a fost nepotrivit initial si am pierdut multe sau am interpretat prost pasaje si trimiteri. Ce nu s-a schimbat, pe de alta parte, e dezinteresul meu in comparatiile folosite la tot pasul

is this going to be my first DNF ever? might just be, I cannot get through more than 5 pages at a time and I am not enjoying myself (nor am I getting anything else out of if except for this single nice line:
‘Then he threw his chair back to the limit of its springs and in that posture he was startled by the definite certainty that he was living out a minute of his life.’

a pretty short and easy read on paper but it personally feels like dozens of intimate therapy sessions piled on top of each other :) sooo I have to either take my time and reflect on it or break down

2020: goal of 20 initially, 30 most of the year - 44 read
2021; goal of 40 - 54 read
2022: goal of 50 aiming for 64 to keep up the streak let’s GO

I decided to use color coded sticky index notes for this one besides annotations and highlighting
so uhh about 32 pages in I ran out of the specific color I’m using for evidence that the mc and I are one and the same person. I have used 2 sticky notes packs. Fuck :)

last year I ended up rereading my favourite chapters of The Idiot from 4am to 8am WHILE at a new year’s party - this year? who fucking knows, perhaps another date with Dostoievski

am I organising my february tbr at 4am while still in december? mmmmm mayhaps 👀

I feel like those who give ratings ranging from 3 to 5 are already fans of the author’s and end up elevating it despite what it really is, solely because of it being a Marquez (I’m sure I’ll love his books but this is my first, not impressed by the name). I might lack the depth to fully grasp the political unrest aspect of it but really now though - am I supposed to like this? be intrigued? entranced? appalled?

the perspective feels very reminiscent of Salem’s Lot except it’s doing absolutely NOTHING to draw the reader in, unlike Salem’s Lot’s bird’s-eye view style - depicting a town’s distress by focusing on different citizens yada yada :/ alsoo, bits of prose that bring Crichton to mind lmao
have yet to decide if Marquez’s original ‘This Shitty Town’ title was fitting, but so far it is :)))

something funny about my wanting to read The General In His Labyrinth for the past 6-7 years, only to choose this as my introduction to the author💀

this has already earned a place among my favourite books! not getting stuck on my ‘thoroughly-enjoyed-reading’ shelf is already quite the feat for such a simple read. To be entirely honest, it doesn’t hold that much literary value, but the only way you’re gonna get this found-family masterpiece away from me is by prying it from my cold, dead hands

i guess I like it so far? cu siguranta o alegere mai buna din optiunile de la omgpoetry pe care le-am rasfoit :)) aproape reuseste sa balanseze pedanteriile cu banalitatile imo, dar doar aproape, tot se simte overly pretentious at times sau cade in cealalta extrema.. Sunt parti care la prima vedere nu m-au impresionat, dar la a doua citire le-am prins gustul
