there are much funnier and sweeter parts but the delivery made me chuckle :)) the audiobook narrated by Ben Tibber was an excellent way to go about reading this

genuinely thought the scientology chapter was just for shits and giggles =)))) I’d never heard what it involved when it came to their actual belief system, I can’t fully take this in rn

read the very last paragraph of the book when I was printing it and started crying at 8am :) haven’t been this intrigued by a niche subject since my french revolution and cuban revolution phases, can’t wait to read it!!

the shift in tone when this is read in translation is baffling to me? In this case, nothing’s lost in translation, quite the opposite imo. I actually enjoyed reading it in Romanian but I’ve come to despise both the narrative choices and Holden himself, when reading it in the original. At first I thought this switch was due to circumstances and my ‘growing out of it’ but now I can tell it’s not entirely that

checked this book out in july and the librarian was like ‘you’re going to love Salinger!’ so I told him I’d already read it and enjoyed it - fast forward to today, had to renew it and return another book. Naturally, he assumed I wanted to return The Catcher since this is the 5th time I’ve returned w/ it for an extension :)) the look of disappointment on his face is making me want to finish it already :))

if I thought identifying w/ Ganya from The Idiot was problematic, the fact that I relate to Raskolnikov’s line of thought, course of action*/behaviour and situation is uhh.. troubling to say the least =))))

I stopped reading right when the mayhem was about to break out (since I obviously want to read it in one sitting) and for the past 2 days I haven’t had any free time at all :(( it’s not going to change in the next couple days either so I’m a bit sad

really missed the underlying psychological horror of King’s novels!! so far every scene involving Carrie’s unhinged, fanatical mother has managed to astound me. The portrayal of religious extremism, behavioural conditioning and abuse is far more disturbing than the ‘actual horror’, similar to the manner in which The Shining’s supernatural horror is subverted by the terrors of addiction

kinda miss reading one book at a time lmao, mood reading has been great, but I can’t realistically tell when I’m gonna finish all of the books I’m ‘currently reading’ :((

first book that caught my eye the SECOND I entered a bookstore after moving to uni :) read most of it throughout that day, lovely and quite interesting

been MIA for a while now, coming back soon ish but everything has been so hectic lately and I’ve had no energy to put into reading :(
