I keep forgetting how much I love this book

I’m not reading this as fast as I wish I were because I’ve been busy lately, but I like it. My only issue with it is that I’m about 200 pages in (the edition I’m reading is 500) and it feels as if I’m still reading the exposition because nothing has happened yet. Idk I wish its pace was a little different, but it’s good nonetheless :)

I’ve only read the first three chapters and I really hope I won’t ‘ruin’ yet another book because of my high expectations :/ it hasn’t really pulled me in yet and I keep finding myself comparing the descriptions of Manderley to Shirley Jackson’s descriptions of the Hill House (which were mesmerising and might be hard to top imo)

if I had a dollar for every book cover I owned that had a cannibal on it I’d have two dollars. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that I have two lmao

(btw thank you to whoever decided to cast Armie Hammer in Rebecca, now I have to see his fucking face whenever I read it🥱)

it’s been almost a whole year since this book reignited my love for reading and I already feel nostalgic so I decided I’d read it in my native language too since the first time around I read the original :) listening to the audiobook as well and the reader’s voice is so sweet

I’m beginning to like it more, I’ve come to terms with its style and the characters are slowly getting more defined if that makes sense. Hope it gets me out of the mini reading slump I’m in atm

I’m skimming my reading journal and absolutely LOSING my mind at the quotes that I wrote in it back when I would write 6 rows of thoughts and 10 pages of quotes (which have gradually turned into 6-7 pages of opinions and annotated/highlighted books). Guess it’s a ‘sob my heart out’ kinda day now

I haven’t read YA in a while and I guess I expected it to be more mature. By that I mean mature when it comes to writing style and action, this feels a bit underwhelming.. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautifully written but it’s obviously written in the usual YA style, which I now think I’ve outgrown? I still really like the setting and concept and I’m getting used to the characters so I hope it grows on me

*proceeds to read heartstopper #1 in its entirety right after, nearly frothing at the mouth because of how badly I needed to read the next page*
