This story is doing really well for suspense and action. I like how the alien Haan are not all bad or all good and some are forced by situations into doing something that they do not like.

I enjoy this series of books; much as I like the Bob the Nailer books. Just hope if they make a movie based on one of these books, they do not screw it up like they did the first Swagger book.

So in keeping with taking a little break from SciFi for a bit, I think I will read another sniper book.

A good follow up to The Burn Zone which starts a few months after the end of the previous book. Sam is still in trouble with the Haan, and struggling to get by washing windows. Now the damn Gonzo's are after her as well as some rogue Haan. Be interesting to see how this ends.

Good action and suspense for which this author is noted for. Would have liked the battle at Paranor to be a little more involved with the Druids rather than the mysterious magic defeating the invading forces.

Good suspense and action in this part of the story. Double crosses and some rather gruesome depictions of cannibalism abound as well as some sex mentioned.

Story has really picked up pace. I guessed correctly who Nix was before Sam figured it out. Good suspense at this point with time dwindling until the Burn starts. Nice twist reveal at this point too, but I wonder how exactly the current Haan queen managed to get it on Sam since the Queen has tried to kill Sam several times.

Another book in the "outside my comfort zone" collection; perhaps I should start a new folder on Goodreads. Recommended to me by a friend on Amazon, sounded somewhat interesting. Dry start so far, here's hoping it gets better.

Took a challenge to read something outside my comfort zone. I went way, way outside my comfort zone. I have to admit this is fascinating reading. I have always found human sexuality intriguing; seeing so many different forms and styles of sexuality, but from a woman's perspective is more interesting than I expected. I expected dry feminist, man-hating drivel, not funny, sad and poignant look at sex & relationships.

This book took a little bit for me to settle into the story. I have enjoyed all of Brook's Shannara stories. It has been several years since I have read a Shannara story so it took me a little while to become familiar with the world again.

I have read several of this author's books and have enjoyed them all - so far. This book started a little slower and it took a while for the story to settle - too much backstory at the beginning which might lose some readers. I found myself flipping back a few pages several times trying to understand what was going on.

I have been reading almost nothing but SciFi for a while now - time to change up my reading genre a little bit. The Elfstones of Shannara was the first fantasy book I ever read, loaned to me by my high school best friend Sutt. Just got the first few pages read, but decent start with a familiar world.

Much more fleet combat action in this book. This book flows better than the first, with clearer lines of action. Some surprising betrayals and reemergence of characters assumed dead.

Lots of space battles in this book, much more than the previous. I am enjoying more battles and less political wrangling in this book than in the first book. I like how Kat is developing as a commander, finding her own style of leadership without becoming an iron-clad bitch. Good job of showing both sides of the conflict without making one side perfect & the other completely evil. Good people are on both sides.

So far fairly good story. Poor Kat happened to speak her mind to an armchair admiral with disastrous consequences for her. Sent off on an expendable harassment mission with several older ships crewed by castoffs misfits, and rejects, Kat heads deeper in Theocracy space.

So now we have snuff porn, opium dealers, and dirty cops. I still don't see why Maggie, as filthy wealthy as she is, would want so badly to be the Chief of Police. Most wealthy persons I have known are too busy looking down their nose at the working stiffs to even bother considering becoming one.

This book has been a very decent read so far. I like how Kat is portrayed as someone born into wealth and privilege, but trying to make her own way without counting on her name to open doors. Anyone but a fool can see that a war with the Theocracy is imminent.

Lagarto reminds me of futuristic Tijuana, will corrupt cops, drugs, crushing poverty, and a population with no means of escaping. Juno is a has-been enforcer with a suicidal wife, trying to raise enough money to pay for the wife's medical bills.

Kat arrived on station at Cadiz finding the fleet there in total disrepair with low morale, and ever worse readiness. Sent there by her father, Kat sends her message through her back-channel just as she leaves Cadiz escorting another group of freighters. Be interesting to see what happens when she gets back.

I was rather dubious purchasing the Kindle version of this book - I like well done Space Opera, and so far this one is fairly good. Believable main character, without her being overblown, and good supporting cast. Interesting premise and skillful use of tropes has made this book an enjoyable read so far.

I wonder if maybe Prim has met the new lady love of his life - another person from a similar background. So far, rather boring reading with more political wrangling with very little action.
