Very boring chapter about the mountain of Bashan but I guess a deep dive into this stuff will result in some boring chapters for the sake of being thorough.

Finally getting back to this. Loved chapter 32, all about Jesus’s first actions post baptism and all the symbolism in his words to Peter at Caesarea Philippi. Good stuff.

Book 3 is starting off really strong. All the soldiers are demoralized but they’re starting to contemplate things more deeply. Chapter 26 has a great conversation with the priest. Interesting observations about how victory and defeat change men differently.

Still not sure what to think of Catherine. So many seemingly childish declarations of love. Is it just playful delusion?

Max Rose is finished with C.S. Lewis - The 4 (Four) Loves
Finished the introduction and it’s pretty dense like Abolition of Man but I’m tracking so far. Also came across the quote my dad has said dozens of times over the years, “God is love, but love is not God”. Seems like that is a hugely important part of Lewis’s thesis here.

It’s hard to grasp what I’m supposed to think of the Catherine Barkley. Sometimes it feels like she’s speaking in broke English due to Hemingway’s writing style. She also makes these large declarations of love that feel immature and naive. Idk, it’s just strange. I think she’s playing some kind of game though. Not nefarious, more like she’s playing pretend except it’s her real life.

I can already tell I’m gonna love this thing. Feels like watching a classic romance from the 40’s or something.

Really good so far. Pretty funny and I really like Hemingway’s style. He trusts you to understand when his characters are being sarcastic without telling you. I love the setting too.

Finished Act 3, 2 more to go. This was harder to understand than the others. Still very good and quite impressive how quickly Shakespeare’s creates complex, believable characters. All of this in less than 60 pages so far.

Kind of funny how they announce the king is dead in all this poetic Shakespearean language and the other characters in the play are like “omg, are you taking about the king?” And they respond with more flowery language lol

Just finished Act 1 and I like it so far. Some things—especially long paragraphs—are unintelligible but shorter, more isolated lines or couplets are bangers!

Gonna see this performed at a park in Royal Oak on Friday with Mom and Dad. Looking forward to it
