I am falling asleep fast and settling in to read late. This book is good and I look forward to finishing it, or digging into a larger session. Instead of being about sleuths seeking alchemy relics, it is about them slowly discovering their existence. Meanwhile we are introduced to each relic and the violence by which they were acquired or stolen. When Paul discovers them, their provenance will stagger us readers.

I tend to read books that are not receiving high traffic and not new releases. Oh well, this is how the rest of you will discover those that aren't advertized! This is a unique, pleasant voice and I am finding all of the shifting chapter accounts compelling.

I love Jon's modern, relatable, genial conversational style. The main characters and town settings so far can be amiably called the same. This is a plus, however great the mystery and adventure portions turn out to be.

My Mom's lifelong friend, Emilee. These books by the Carter family are from my Mom to me. As of four months, my Mom is with Emilee and many friends and family in the spirit plain. I appreciate a way to get to know some of my Mom's friends.

This is magnifique! Could this get any better? I am enthralled! It is 600 stimulating, passionate, intriguing pages and I am not checking how many more I have to read, which is a habit even when I generally enjoy books. I don't want this to end even though half this length is my norm. Friends with interest in a true mystery of uncovering secrets and treasure, mixed with world history: read this 1988 bestseller!

Magnificent! Or since much pertains to France: magnifique! A lot hinges on Algeria, Russia, and the 1972 portion begins in New York. This book gets grooving. The surprising thing is it checks my "anti-boxes"; succeeding at thrilling me contrary to what I normally enjoy! I not only love the 1793 timeline but equally so, to 1973 and each era's heroines. Being unable to tell who is friend or foe is breathtaking!

I love this book! I have had it for a decade, thinking it might be to dense with history and timelines to get into, until I was in an adventurous mood. Over about six years, I found what I call our "downer" at Goodreads: they brand books we love with 1 star and we adore books they say they could hardly finish. I saw Bev claim that about "The Eight" and tested it as a lark. Well, it is my unforgettable favourite!

I am enjoying every inch of this. There is a lot to it, many different people's stories that connect, between 1792 and 1972 and all of it is interesting! For once, I am not antsy to return to the modern 1972 timeline but care for all of the protagonists and am riveted every page of everyone's scenes. I am glad I am into this famous 1988 novel at last. I have owned the paperback for a decade.

I noted before that there is a camp of folks who did not find the exciting pitch and investment of the characters and stories of this book. I am happy to be enjoying the varied timeline characters and each of their stories thoroughly.

This is a famous novel from 1988 that receives all kinds of stars. Some did not get why it is good and others thrive on the pages. I am liking it.
