This book is being called the next Gone Girl, and while I didn't find it as elegantly executed as Flynn's book, it was a compelling, twisty read.

Very strange book in which the characters are being forced inside of stories they're creating? Maybe? Still not really sure what it's all about.

Fascinating and strange. Has the same quality I found in BOY, SNOW, BIRD, that I still don't have a sense what kind of story this is.

A lot going on in this collection, and I think I better grasped the prose parts than the more poetic parts, but I'm very glad I read it all.

Very impressed by the way this is such a character-focused book, with plot events that are often fairly mundane, and yet the story is gripping and full of mystery.

"As usual, they started [the AIDS coverage] out with footage of some kind of sweaty nightclub in the city with a bunch of gay men dancing around in stupid leather outfits. I couldn't even begin to imagine Finn dancing the night away like some kind of half-dressed cowboy. It would have been nice if for once they showed some guys sitting in their living rooms drinking tea and talking about art or movies or something."

"As I've thought about time in fiction for this essay, it's struck me that storytelling, in ancient and modern practice, is always a contemplation of the experience of time passing. A story depends on things not standing still, on the built-in condition of impermanence."
