Fascinating combination of plotlines!

Excited to finally get a real introduction to the youngest family member, who reminded me of my own teenage self when she hung cryptic quotes on school bulletin boards and memorized "This Be the Verse".

So many fascinating pieces introduced in the early pages of this novel. I'm loving getting to see inside the lives of these characters, and I'm eager to get to know the other people involved.

What a lovely ending to such a fun book!

I am completely in suspense about how how these wonderful threads are going to tie up together!

On the Ferry Building: "...in the middle of that century, not merely abandoned but actually walled off by a dark freeway that curled around the Embarcadero like a rampart. Then, an earthquake came and it was like something out of a fairy tale: the wall tumbles, the spell fades, and the townspeople realize what a gift they've possessed all along."

This book is getting yummy, with perfectly baked loaves, happy sourdough starter, and carbohydrate nerds.

This is fun and a little bit wacky, and it holds the promise of a lot more fun and wackiness to come!

Earthfires, this is a clever book!

So many fascinating things going on! I'm curious to discover how much will be resolved in this installment and what will continue into the rest of the trilogy.

Great characters, fascinating bunch of conflicts!

Full of great characters, tension, and geology.

This trilogy just won its second Hugo award, and the third book will be released next week, so I figured it was time to get started. Fascinating things happening right from the first page!

"The optimist sees the glass half full. The pessimist sees the glass half empty. The chemist sees the glass completely full, half in liquid state and half in gaseous, both of which are probably posionous."

Powerful, minimalist voice.

"I don't see myself having kids... If I had one, I would want to have two, and if I had two, I would want to have zero." Wonderful wry narrative voice!

Continues​ to be dark and thrilling and unexpected.

This story is so gripping and so horrific.

I was expecting a horror story, but I had no idea this would get so dark. Still great, but very heavy stuff.

Really curious to see where this is all going to end up.

"'Dad, I admit that I lived the past thirtyish years of my life sans integrity. I mean, I didn't, like, kill anybody. Not that I feel I deserve a medal for that or anything. Actually I think it's easier to get medals *for* killing people, right? Isn't that crazy?'" Funny tangential little bits like this nonstop in this wacky story.

Wow, some excitement!

This is off to a wonderful start! LaValle's writing is great, and I'm excited about the story he's spinning here.

"Eating grossed him out; he felt it was antiquated and menial." All kinds of weird, great character details in this story!

Funny and odd and compelling!

Off to an intriguing start! Good premise, and another great narrative voice from Nutting.

Fascinating characters in a fascinating world. There isn't much in the way of plot, but I found it a highly compelling read nonetheless.

There are just so many pleasing things about this story.

Less compelling reading experience than I'd hoped, but full of useful information and ideas.
