Inauguration Day reading. While I question the choice to open with a dry proposal for financial reform by Bernie Sanders, the following essays are rousing calls to action. I recommend everyone read this piece by Brittany Packnett, originally published at Vox: http://www.vox.com/platform/amp/first...

Chilling to read of a new ambassador to Germany in 1933 remaining in denial about what was happening around him.

Well, I guess it's as good a time as any to read a book about Hitler's rise to power. Many people have recommended Larson's work and this book in particular, and it's off to an excellent start.

Lovely variety in these stories, in topic, style, tone. I particularly enjoyed the one I just read, "Florida," about class and bodies.

The first story is beautiful and brutal, like all of Gay's writing.
