Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee in the US, I transported myself to southeastern Australia in 2007, where I now spend my time dodging parrot droppings, racking my brain, and contemplating my navel. My favourite book genres are sci-fi and fantasy, but I'll enjoy pretty much anything that tells a good story. In early 2020, my wife and I moved to the Blue Mountains, and have so far been loving it up here.

I like to write stuff. Currently am working on a sequel to Of Time-Cracked Granite . I also run The Otherspect Substack, moderate the Otherspect Storytelling and Discussion Forum over on Discord, and blog at www.otherspect.com. Nice to meet you :-)

Magic (a poem)

What is magic?

Magic is
That electric anticipation of a kiss:
The parting of lips,
The flow of breath,
Heartbeats accelerating
Into interweaving rhythm.
It is that touch of a father’s hand
To his son’s shoulder,
Wise eyes on the horizon,
Patiently silent through the younger man’s sobs.
It is dawn,
Exploding through the clouds
In colors never seen,
Drawing song from feathery throats
And delivering myriad minds aw Read more of this blog post »

I really wanted to give this book 4 stars, because of the *gorgeous* writing. The imagery. The pure poetry of her language. But the story just didn't seem to go anywhere. I realize that might be more a reflection of my mood at the time than the actua ...more

Jack London
“I would rather be ashes than dust!
I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot.
I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.
The function of man is to live, not to exist.
I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.
I shall use my time.”
