Karen Hoehne Welcome to the Boxall's 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die Group. Please introduce yourself to the group.

message 2: by Petra (new)

Petra Meadley Hi! I'm Pet. I'm from Sydney, Australia. I have always been a reader and used to read the same genres all the time.

When I discovered Boxall's list, I appreciated the chance to broaden my horizons and read outside my comfort zone. I've completed about a quarter of the list and am enjoying it.

Lotte_ladybird Hello :) I’m Lotte from Copenhagen, Denmark. I’ve been reading the 1001 Books list actively for around 7 years. I have read 749 books from the combined list. It’s such a great way to discover books I wouldn’t have read otherwise.

Jennifer W Hi all! I'm Jennifer from Upstate New York, about to get buried in a snowstorm! I've been slowly working on the list for years. I lost my flash drive with my completed spreadsheet and I haven't motivated to figure it out again. I was around 100 books completed. I try to always at least have 1 1001 book going, right now it's The Magic Mountain, which is enjoyable, but slow going.

Diane, I saw in your introduction that you were originally from Maine. What part? I went to college up there. :)

message 7: by James (new)

James Spencer Where in upstate NY Jennifer? I grew up in Geneva and went to college in Potsdam(Clarkson) but have family scattered from Buffalo to the Hudson Valley(Catskill). Still living in Rochester but Rochester Minnesota rather than NY.

message 8: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W Near Ithaca. My company's home office is in Geneva! I go up there pretty regularly.
I wonder which Rochester gets more snow? We're getting buried at the moment!

message 9: by James (new)

James Spencer I would guess that NORMALLY, we get more snow here and we are definitely colder (but not as cold as it was in Potsdam!)

Hi, Jennifer! I have lived all over Maine. I am originally from Southern Maine, although I consider Eastport, Maine home.

I love Ithaca!

message 12: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W Hehe, geographic cousins all over the place! I went to school in Bar Harbor. I spent 2 summers working at a summer camp in Minnesota (near Bemidji)- I wasn't brave enough to stay out there for a winter! Though NY and Maine are pretty snowy and bitterly cold on their own. I once saw the ocean freeze in Maine! But I came back home, because the Ithaca area is beautiful and my wandering days were over. :)

I have been reading other fiction books but am excited to get to read the books on this list as my next challenge (that and the impossible task of reading all the books on my bookcase too!!)

Bob Kaufman HI, I'm Bob from south Louisiana, US. I've read most of my life, but really got earnest about it maybe 15 years ago. I discovered the list about 7 or 8 years ago and I've now read 353 from the combined list. Currently, I'm reading some of the oldest books from the list, 1700s and earlier. There are some interesting adventure and journey/quest books among these.

Sean Welcome, Bob!

Nice numbers. Sounds like a fun journey into the past for you right now.

Welcome to the group, Bob!

Like you, I really enjoy the 1700s and earlier. I am always surprised at how racy some of these books are. Right now I'm reading Tirant lo Blanc and The Journey to the West. I have really enjoyed the Chinese classics.

Hi Bob! Welcome to the group!

I discovered the Boxall list around the same time. I wonder if there was a lot of 1001 activity at that time?

Hi Cphe!

Given how global this group is, we're practically neighbours. LOL! I wonder how many other Aussies are here, and how many from NSW?

I started with the 2012 edition as that's when I discovered the list. These days, I'm working to all editions, which is 1315 in total.

Are you enjoying it?

Gemma Hi all, I’m Gemma. I live in a small market town on the border on Wales/England. I’ve low key been trying to work on the list for years but not making loads of progress so hoping to recommit a bit this year!
I also enjoy crochet, knitting, video games, dnd and have a seven year old and work full time so sometimes I don’t manage to fit much reading in!
Happy to be here with you all though for the ride :)

I learned to knit just to make my nephew a Doctor Who scarf! That is the total extent of my knitting experience. I do love crochet!

message 36: by Andi (new)

Andi Hi everyone, I'm Andi and I'm from Germany. While I discovered the list a few years ago, I'm only now starting to tackle it in earnest. So far I've read 46 of the combined lists and I need to read a little over 2 a month to reach that goal. :D

As I'm an avid collector of beautiful editions of classics, this list is really helpful in combining my two favorite (and completely separate :D) pastimes: reading books, and collecting books.

I found a copy at my local library and got interested because it offered so many books I don't know that I would have found on my own.

Bucket Hello, I'm Kara (or Bucket). I live in Oregon and work in health care marketing/communications. I have a partner, a three-year-old, and a sweet doggo who all keep me busy. Reading is my go-to hobby, but I also love to hike, camp, and backpack.

I've been working on the list for quite a while, along with about a dozen other lists. I really love it when I can read a book that is on 2-3 of my lists! I'm currently at 202 from the combined lists and my goal is 1001 of the total -- anything after that is icing!

Dina Goluza Hi, I'm Dina. I'm from Bosnia and Herzegovina and live in a small picturesque town on 4 rivers. I am an electrical engineer by profession, but today I work as a professor and teach computer science.
I love traveling and reading. Nowadays, reading is mostly prevalent because it is more accessible and cheaper. But reading is also a special kind of journey through space and time.
