That sounds a bit scary but hear me out before you burn my house down, okay? We underappreciate the power of words as a society. With just a few letters we can have ideas, change minds, build things, create almost anything. And being able to do that on paper is something that I love. I get so excited when I can describe things to a reader and know that I'm putting images into their mind, like the page is a like between our brains... That doesn't sound creepy at all. But the best part of having this power is that I can use it to influence people. I can send social messages about homelessness within the context of a space opera. I can write about social inequality and justice and gang violence within the context of a book about girls kicking butt and running the streets of their city (hint hint). Writing gives me the voice I need to speak for the voiceless.(less)

The best advice is the lesson I've learned through my many years as an aspiring writer: don't give up. There will be many days where you feel as though your writing is no good, as if no one will like it, no publisher will say "yes," and when you think you're wasting your time. This will happen so many times that it's enough to discourage many writers forever. But if you're serious about writing and passionate enough, you can push through those negative (and often false) thoughts and achieve your writing dreams. (less)

L. Taylor, Epic

“James scoffed. “We are not being held prisoner. You’re so dramatic.”
“Oh yeah, she just kidnapped us and told us the only way we’re going to be let go is if we go to other alien planets and steal from them. You’re right, James, I’m clearly overly overreacting,” Kat snapped.”
L. Taylor, Epic

John Green

“I'm the Super-sized McShizzle, man!" Leo said. "I'm Leo Valdez, bad boy supreme. And the ladies love a bad boy.”

“They were infinite. They were the beginning and the ending; they were eternity. The king standing before them gaped as the shield of flame died out to reveal Aelin and Dorian, hand in hand, glowing like newborn gods as their magic entwined.”
