When I first read this series I didn’t really love Lan Wangji because he is so taciturn and didn’t seem to have much personality…but now I can see the underlying hints at his long standing, hidden devotion and I have to say he is pretty close to tied with Hua Cheng (in Heaven Official’s Blessing)…and Wei Wuxian is definitely a delight even in his total obliviousness 😆

I enjoy the plot of this story as well, it has a great blend of mystery and action along with flash backs that give more depth and meaning to the current events. The cast is large, but after the reading and watching the shows it’s no longer difficult for me to place everyone.

I have waited so long to read this series…I have read Scum Villain and Heaven Official’s Blessing more times than I can count (though I haven’t finished HOB yet naturally) and the final book of this series just came out so I figured it’s time….

This first volume was different than what I expected….I’ve seen the first ten episodes of The Untamed and I’ve watched the first few animation episodes so I would have some faces to put with the many, many names and places. I’m glad I did that because it would have been so easy to get overwhelmed.

Even so, at times I really had to sit up and concentrate while reading. It was a little more mental work than the other two series…BUT, in contrast, the relationship between the two main characters is just, hmmm, easier (?) than the other two books in many ways so far.

I have often lamented that in the first books of the other two series we didn’t even get much “romance” or even much interaction at all between the two main characters….but in this book the two mains were in each other’s presence for like 90 percent of the time.

It’s not better, but it is different.

I’m not sure how I feel about them yet, and I know how MXTX can turn a whole story up on its head at the drop of a hat….so I don’t want to say too much. I’ll probably be back here in a week after I’ve finished all the books and I’ll be laughing at my past self 😂 ...more "
