HVR Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne

HNR, but have added it to be tbr list.
HYR The Wretched of Muirwood* (Legends of Muirwood, Book 1) by Jeff Wheeler
?
*This book was a cheapie that I downloaded to my Kindle. I didn't expect much, but I found it surprisingly good. More traditional fantasy than urban fantasy. I have already downloaded the second and third books in the trilogy to my Kindle and hope to get to them in future months.

HYR Bitter Spirits* (Roaring Twenties, Book 1) by Jenn Bennett

HYR The Diviners by Libba Bray

No, but it's on my tbr list.
Also, I finished Bitter Spirits and it is paranormal romance rather than urban fantasy. I assumed it was urban fantasy because Jenn Bennett's last series fell into that genre. It was very good, but is perhaps not what interests you.
HYR Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

HYR The Martian by Andy Weir

HNR, sounds excellent. Also, sounds like it would be a great movie.

*Your thoughts on where Kevin Hearne is taking this series.

I HNR Shattered, but I have read the first 4 books in the series. I like them, I just fell out of the Atticus habit, for a bit. I intend to go back.
HYR Written in My Own Heart's Blood by Diana Gabaldon

Also, what do you think of Shattered?
HNR any of the books in the Outlander series.
Loved Shattered, but Kevin Hearne introduced a new major character who enables the reader to examine Atticus' actions from a different perspective. Any more would be a spoiler.
HYR Y is for Yorick: A Slightly Irreverent Shakespearean ABC Book for Grown-Ups by Jennifer Adams

HYR And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

It's next up -- from the library-- for me.
I am about halfway through The Book of Life and loving it so far.
HNR And Then There Were None, although I do enjoy movies and series made from Agatha Christie's books.
HYR Agents of Artifice (Magic: The Gathering: Planeswalker, Book 1) by Ari Marmell
?

Agents of Artifice sounds neat! I don't play Magic the Gathering, but apparently that's not a barrier to enjoying this novel. As Richard said here in his review, "Agents of Artifice is a book made of win and awesome and you should all go buy it." HNR.
HYR The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe

HYR Beast by Donna Jo Napoli

No, but I should have. Speak is on the reading list for our 9th graders. I co-teach English 10 and 11 Literacy classes (classes for struggling learners). I like to read the books for the lower graders in order to make comparisons for our students.
HYR Whirlwind by Mark Del Franco

I was going to say I haven't heard of this, but I've put it on my TBR list... Have you read it? HNR.
I love that whole sub-genre of books like Speak, Cut, Sold and others.
HYR Ellen Hopkins novels in poetry, that have many, many pages, but actually read very fast like Identical? Like Speak, Ellen Hopkins' books are often on banned & challenged lists, which I have found interests kids in that age group.
I have read all of the Connor Grey and Laura Blackstone books. Loved Whirlwind and am hoping it is the prequel to a new series.
I have not read any of the Ellen Hopkins poetry novels, but many of my students enjoy them.
HYR Darla's Story* (Ashfall, #.5) by Mike Mullin
*This is a great little short story that adds a lot to understanding Darla's behavior in the first book.

HYR Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

(I've read a lot of Chris Crutcher & Walter Dean Myers & other writers who write YA for boys about sports like Ron Koertge, who writes novels about sports in poetry.)
HYR Stotan! by Chris Crutcher

HNR
We formed novel groups last month in our English class. One group read The Contender. Basically, the main theme is not everyone will be a champion, but what's important is the journey and reaching your personal best. Other good themes in the book too.

HNR We are currently reading Fallen Angels in our English 11 class.

HYR Walter Dean Myers books about the Civil War and the Draft RiotsRiot

* I have recommended before a graphic novel also called The Harlem Hellfighters, by Max Brooks.
HNR any of the other Walter Dean Myers books. I have heard many reviews of the others by my students. Myers is a popular author for an independent novel, especially among male students interested in the military. I will try to find a copy of The Harlem Hellfighters. It could be something that would fit in our curriculum.
HYR The Clockwork Dagger* by Beth Cato
?

HYR The Princess Bride by William Goldman

HYR Pirate King by Laurie R. King

HYR The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe

No, I actually took it off my list. I read the first three chapters of A Great and Terrible Beauty and thought that the book dragged. I stopped reading it and took the The Diviners off my tbr list as well.
HYR Mindwar by Andrew Klavan
?*
*This is the book I switched two after getting bored with A Great and Terrible Beauty. I am halfway through Mindwar and so far it is excellent.
