I really strugle to see why people think Steve Gerlach is like Laymon. He's not. They were friends but their writing styles are pretty different and they are worlds apart as authors. I'm sure some people enjoy his books but if you're expecting someone like Laymon you'll find yourself dissapointed like I did. I've read both Rage by Steve Gerlach and Lake Mountain by Steve Gerlach . The first was really really dissapointing and the second was okay. I'd try another and may buddy read Love lies Dying with yous but don't set yourself up for dissapointment.

Kate | 3525 comments You must think I've got such shit taste in books at the moment. LOL.
I had noticed there was quite a few negative reviews but I guess we'll see.

Just post here when you'd like to read it and I'll join you. :)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments I'm on board for either the Great and Secret Show or Swan Song. Both are in my short stack for this summer.

message 305: by [deleted user] (new)

lol. Nah. You definitely have great taste in books but some of your recent author suggestions are questionable. lol

Swan song is amazing but I think it's to soon for me to do a re-read of it due to the size.

We'll read The Great and Secret Show first - maybe next week...? And then after I'll read Swan Song with who wants to?

message 310: by Kate (new)

Kate | 3525 comments I would be keen to tackle Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon inbetween semesters.

message 311: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany I'm read for Swan Song whenever :)

Kate, when is it in between semesters for you?

It seems like it would be Kate, Traci, Andrew, and moi for this one so far.

message 312: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments I might consider TGSS, but if its a long one I might have to pass.

Sounds good. Just let me know when your ready to start. Do you want to set up a thread? I've never done it before.

Addy wrote: "I might consider TGSS, but if its a long one I might have to pass."

658 pages lol

message 315: by [deleted user] (new)

Been a while since i read a pretty big book. So is it me, Andrew and Traci for TGSS?

message 316: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm good for whenever. :)
I can start the thread when we're ready. It's easy.

message 317: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments Yeah I figured. Well, some other time. I will check in though cause I'm curious. Looks like a good one. Happy reading!

message 318: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments I'll finish my current main read this evening, so i can be ready as soon as tonight. If everyone else needs more time, I have a few short reads in mind to bide time.

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 13944 comments Kev wrote: "lol. Nah. You definitely have great taste in books but some of your recent author suggestions are questionable. lol"

Hey! Some of those suggestions were mine. I'm trying to read things by authors I've never read to get them off my shelf :)

Steve was recommended by Laymon himself at the beginning of the book~

I can be ready tomorrow. If that's good.

message 324: by Anton (new)

Anton (antonb3) | 115 comments Hey, mind if I join the TGSS buddy read? I'm actually currently halfway through and need a kick to finish.

message 325: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments Sure thing, Anton! I read the first half of it like ten years ago and got stuck when things started going metaphysical. I remember very little.

message 326: by Andy (new)

So it sounds like we begin tomorrow. I'll create the thread if no one has done so yet.

message 327: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments The TGSS buddy read thread is now up.

message 328: by [deleted user] (new)

Yea! It used to be one of my favorite books that I read so many times it fell a part - but it's been at least ten years since I last read it. I wonder if I'll still like it...

I'm not sure, the tutor for the unit hasn't even told us what the last assignment is or the due by date. I'm thinking beginning of June?

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 13944 comments Anyone want to give Chuck Wendig's Blackbirds Blackbirds (Miriam Black, #1) by Chuck Wendig a try?

message 331: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments Looks like a great one Nikki, but I got too much going on.

message 332: by Ms. Nikki (new)

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 13944 comments No problem, Addy. Just want to try something different :)

I understand. Buddy reads help get through the pile faster and with more enthusiasm :)

message 337: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 1099 comments doing buddy reads is the only way I can decide on a book, I basically just see what everyone else wants to read and go with that because If I chose myself I would spend more time deciding what to read than actually reading.

message 338: by Ms. Nikki (new)

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 13944 comments Next time you do a Laymon read, track me down. I'm way behind on his reads~

message 339: by Justin (last edited May 11, 2013 08:29PM) (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 1099 comments I'm buddy reading Night in the Lonesome October right now with addy then I'm continuing on the beast house series with cate and reading The Midnight Tour. after that I'm reading Funland with addy and Kevin.

message 340: by [deleted user] (new)

I probably won't add another buddy read right now. But I'd go for reading Funland when you do.

message 341: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments I'm also in for Funland down the line a bit. How are you liking Night in the Lonesome October?

I'll probably track it down at the libray, so Tuesday or Wednesday?

I'm loving it. we are at 50% right now and I just put it down to start on a group read, I can't wait to get back to it. when we get ready to start Funland I will post something here and let you and traci both know. it will probably be a couple weeks yet.

Anyone can join us!

message 347: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments I have a goal to read all 5 nominees for the Bram Stoker main award by the time the winner is announced in mid-June.

Here are the nominees:

Bottled Abyss by Benjamin Kane Ethridge
Nightwhere by John Everson
The Drowning Girl by Caitlín R. Kiernan
The Haunted by Bentley Little
Inheritance by Joe McKinney

Anyone wanna join me for the long haul? Perhaps we could just start a general 'buddy reads' thread for the simultaneous discussion of all five of these titles.

message 348: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm game for this. I have Inheritance already.

message 349: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany I've already read them, but I wish you luck! There's a thread about this in the Lists section. I think we're going to have a poll soon to see which we liked the most.

message 350: by Ms. Nikki (new)

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 13944 comments Andrew, Nightwhere was a really good read.
