Anyone want to start
on the 24th of this month? Most botm's should be winding down and next months haven't started yet - seems like a good time.

Really looking forward to starting this book. And even better - I won't be reading it alone.

Me too. I love the film, I'm hoping the book will be even better.
Ha. I was actually aiming to start on a Monday. The 24th is a Sunday... Mistake?... Or Freudian slip??
Doesn't matter. Can't wait to start. I've never read it either.

I just looked at my kindle and I own this but haven't read it, so I'm in!
That actually looks really good!! And I have never read any of his stuff before, but I don't know if I can get it in time. But, I'm gonna try.
Do you need to read the Afraid books in order? Or not?
I don't believe you have to read them in order, but I'm not positive. You should read Afraid b4 Trapped though. That wud be my recommendation.I think I will read Endurance with u guys as well. After all, we r a fun group of ladies!

I think you're right Addy you don't have to read them in order. I think they're seen as a trilogy because they deal with fear of darkness but I think they're standalone reads.
Yes, we are a fun group of ladies ;)

Cindy wrote: "okay with me... i'm gonna get my hands on a copy and i will be all ready!!!"I think I have a loanable Kindle copy if you would like to borrow it. PM me your email if that would work for you.
I would like to - but I think I'll sit this one out and read Afraid first.

That is super nice of you...but I am an old lady and I have to read my books in book form...I just HAVE to!! lol but thanks so much for the offer :)
Cindy wrote: "Oh and it looks like my copy is on it's way. I did an Interlibrary Loan for it! woo!!"I just converted to Kindle about a year ago and now I can't live without it. I read about a 170 books last year; maybe three of them were made of paper.
Never say never. The top demographic of Kindle owners is women in their 40's and 50's :)
My mom who is in her 50s reads on a nook. And I gave my grandmother my used nook and she loves it. Ereaders are very easy on the eyes.

Cindy it's strange but I always thought I would hate reading on an ereader, now I can't imagine not using my iPad for reading. It saves you money as well which means you can buy more books, yay :)

Hi Eleven, what's the deal with lending anyway. Can you lend to people in other countries or just In the same region?
oh yeah...haha know all about the kindle, the nook, etc. I work at a public library and we are always pushing that junk!! hahaha no, but seriously, I am not saying never..because I'm sure sooner or later..that's all there will be...but you're gonna have to pry books from my cold dead hands!!! lol Am I being melodramatic?? No doubt. lol

I wonder how much of that demographic is the result of fifty shades of grey ;)
ahh yes!! fifty shades of crap!!! lol We had to go to Barnes and Nobles and buy I don't know how many copies just to fill the requests!!! sigh...
Cindy wrote: "ahh yes!! fifty shades of crap!!! lol We had to go to Barnes and Nobles and buy I don't know how many copies just to fill the requests!!! sigh..."I can't believe I bought that book, I haven't read it and now have absolutely no desire to do so. Waste of money.
Cindy wrote: "oh yeah...haha know all about the kindle, the nook, etc. I work at a public library and we are always pushing that junk!! .."Ho ho ho. I work in a public library and we do too. Yet I have more trouble trying to download stuff from Overdrive. Makes me want to slam my computer against the wall. Even my brainiac nerd IT husband gets frustrated with it, especially the audiobooks.
Tressa wrote: "more trouble trying to download stuff from Overdrive. Makes me want to slam my computer against the wall. I have to get my husband to help me with all that stuff, lol. But Overdrive should be simple to use. It makes me want to tear my hair out. Was so disappointed I couldn't download an audio I checked out. Or it downloaded some and not all of it. I found an app on my phone I had forgotten about with free aduiobooks on it; they're in the public domain and lots of stories I planned on reading anyway and some I've enjoyed revisiting. Listened to "The Monkey's Paw" yesterday while cooking, and today I'm listening to "Ethan Frome." So simple to hook up, click play, and listen to.
The last audiobook I got from Overdrive played 7 out of 9 parts then just stopped cooperating. The tech guy at the library couldn't figure it out either so I would have had to wait 8 more days for my checkout to expire, then get back in line, third on the list, to try and check it out again to listen to the last couple hours assuming they would work the second time around. So I said "no thank you," and downloaded it from The Pirate Bay in about 20 minutes and I don't feel the least bit bad about it.
I hear ya, Eleven. I also am aggravated at how long it takes to load my CDs into iTunes, then find the right cord to sync it, when it cooperates, of course. Yesterday I loaded several CDs, then synced my iPod, but they weren't on my iPod. I could have finished listening to one of them if I still had my hand Discman!
There was an Overdrive seminar today at the library where I work. It was exhausting! We're also having issues with our e-magazine software from Zinio.
Reminds me of that old Judds' song: "Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days." How I miss them sometime.

Yeah...I work in a public library also...We do have our share of Overdrive problems...but I never use it. The patrons know more about it than I do. lol They do seem to like it tho.
When I worked in a public dept. I had the urge to slam down the phone whenever the person on the line mentioned Overdrive.
lol I know what you mean. I still work part time on the desk, and I get all biggity when I get an overdrive question. ugh Basically, they were like, "oh we have this now". In other words, we didn't get much training. But little by little we have been figuring it out. But it still makes me crazy!!
We got some training, but the problem on the other end of the line could be user incompetence, faulty equipment, etc. Some people barely know how to use a mouse! So who knows what they have/haven't done to understand Overdrive. Some don't even want to go through the troubleshooting tips first. Like the instruction to install Overdrive on the computer!
Oh my lord. When we just started...it was the damn Nook!! That was about the most complicated, backward crap!! It is so much better with the newer Nook! And you're right. People would get them for xmas and not have a clue what to do!!!
