1000 members! thats great news! i have been offline for four days, pretty sure when i was last on it wasn't anywhere close to that.
I have only seen Argo and Silver Linings Playbook. Loved them both for different reasons. Happy to see Ben Affleck get some recognition and love!
Craig wrote: "Lol, no it was a suggestion to mark the 1,000 members...to read a book with more than 1,000 pages, maybe a group read"Haha. That might thin the group out by scaring a few people off! :-)
Robyn wrote: "1000 members! thats great news! i have been offline for four days, pretty sure when i was last on it wasn't anywhere close to that."I know! It feels like our group exploded in popularity overnight!
So, I was just accepted to my first law school and I'm really excited! Since this group has been a huge source of stress-relief for me, I just want to say thanks to all the mods for keeping this awesome group going. I look forward to whatever we have in store and for getting to know more of you in this group!

As a lawyer, I know exactly what's ahead of you, so I wish you all the best. Let me know if you have any questions
Congratulations Kelsi! I admire how much you read and to be in school. I remember when I was in school that I could not wait for a break so that I could read what I wanted. I could not find time to pleasure read and schoolwork.

I've found when I'm studying, I still need a novel to read for leisure - sometimes I'd have five, ten minutes when I'm waiting to leave the house and don't want to open a text book or start on a journal article, or I'd want something light for 10 minutes before I'd go to bed. The problem would be that I wouldn't want to put down the book I was reading, so I started re-reading books I was very familiar with so that I would know what was coming up and didn't need to keep reading to find out! I've lost count of how many times I've read LM Montgomery's "Anne" series (my favourite re-read)! I think it'd have to be at least half a dozen times!

Better read the books you want to now before you start.

I was looking at Law School as a possible option after I graduated college. It just never fit into the plans though. I admire you and kudos!!
So, I just got back into exercising and started a Beginner 5K fitness plan. After a week and a half, I just completed my first 5K in under 45 minutes!! First time ever doing that!!! Now, I'm interested in reading some books about fitness/running/staying healthy. If you have any suggestions...send them my way! :)I use RunKeeper to keep up with my running exercises and MyFitnessPal to keep up with my calories.
Wow, that's awesome, Ashley! I've been thinking about training for a 5k, but I really hate running. I did, however, just git a FitBit, so I've been walking up and down stairs more just to get higher numbers. (I started reading about three times as much when I began tracking the number of books I'd read.)
Thanks everyone! I set my goal at 80 because I felt like that was feasible for me if I do start law school!Ashley: I would love to discuss running with you. I have run 2 half's and a 20k and various races ranging from 3-7 miles in the past 2 years. My goal for 2013 is 3 halfs and a 20k! I used to think I hated running. Then I found and awesome running buddy and a tremendous group of friends to run with. Most areas have a running club. Join one for motivation! If you ever get to running long distances, on long run day, the club sets up water stations and motivation tables so that you can keep on going! My new joy when running is to download either audiobooks or podcasts! Kill two birds with one stone!
The book I LOVE to recommend is:
Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen Regardless of being a runner, this book is awesome. A cultural study, combined with running factoids!
Also in regards to training: The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer. Tons of great tips and general running knowledge no matter what the distance.
My life has changed in so many positive way since I started running. I eat better, feel better, and have learned a lot about myself in the process! Good luck to you, I hope you find the same satisfaction I have! You can do it!
Finally made my way into this thread. It's taken me forever to just catch up with monthly things. But I have a question for all of you. Do you ever into a 'reading funk'. Where you just can't get into any of the books you pick up at all? I'm in one now.

TOTALLY. I'm going through that right now as well. Do you have a favorite book? I recently picked up one of my favorite short books, The Giver and it's helping a little. At least I'm reading something, you know.
Yeah, I totally get that. My normal go to is any of Jodi Picoult's books. I just got one of her newer ones, so I'm hoping that it'll help some.

Thanks, Kelsi! I am definitely putting those books on my TBR. My husband is working on a 10K while I am working on my 5K. He might like to check them out as well. Thanks again!
HELP! Haha!I am making the Group Read thread for February. My copy of The Color Purple is in North Carolina and I'm in Illinois. Can someone let me know how the book is broken down?
I know there are 90 letters, but I need to know if it is in parts and what the parts are called.
Thanks bunches!
You're a great group! :)
Hello from a mile in the air! I have missed you. I've been traveling ridiculously all around the country the last few weeks, so I haven't been keeping up with my duties here as well as I should've been. I'll get the hang of it soon. I'm on a plane right now, and that got me thinking. Do you like reading on planes? Are there specific types of books you like to read while traveling?
For me, I like dense books while I fly. I'm basically captive, so it's a good opportunity to read something thick and maybe a little difficult. There's nothing to get distracted by. :)
That's great that you get to travel internationally for work, Craig! So far, I only go domestically, but I'm pushing for a trip to Switzerland this year. We'll see.
I want a job where I get to travel. I'll live vicariously through anyone that does, lol!**PS: I just get to stay at home most of the time. :/ I'm looking forward to the day the hubby graduates medical school and I can focus on me a little bit. Perhaps I will find my niche then!
Anyway though, when we do get to travel, I usually read a mystery book of some sort. When we flew in October from Tennessee to San Diego, I read Abducted.
I got a Kindle so that reading would be easier when traveling. However, if I travel with my mom, I end up carrying a real book anyways because she steals my kindle to read books like The Hunger Games. I got her a nook to finally stop the kindle thieving!
On planes, I always read something light and quick because I feel like you have to be ready at a moment's notice for change. When I travel in the car, I prefer mysteries or really great historical fiction for long car trips, relying on them and caffeine to help keep me awake:)

I do the same thing because the worst is being caught someplace without a good book!
I have created a new group called Goodreads All Sorts and I'd love for people to join it or just even just give it a look. It's a group that discusses anything and everything. There will be monthly group reads, movies, and music. There is a folder for everything you could think of. I'd really like if people could spread the word because I'd love for the group to be a success. Here is the link to the group:http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/9...
Thanks very much,
Jack :-)
The main reason I got an ereader (I have a Nook) is for traveling. Multiple books just get too heavy--it's much more convenient for me to carry everything I'd ever want to read in a single device.
Same here, Kara! We travel from Illinois to North Carolina as often as we can. It is so much easier to just put books on my Kindle as opposed to putting them in a bag. Plus, I have more foot room! Haha.
I got my Kindle after traveling a few years ago with my mom to see family and I noticed a lot of people on our flight had ereaders and I saw how much easier it was then me who had half a dozen books for the week we were going to be spending there. But after I got it, it became easier for me to use then to read actual books. My fibro makes it really hard to hold a book for hours on end to read. With my kindle, I have a stand so it can hold itself and I can just put it on my lap. And the fact when I got it the only book store in town had gone out of business, it made reading ten times easier because I have a hard time with libraries and remembering to get books back on time. It also made it easier after so because there are times my body simply doesn't have it in me to go out and shot and I can do most of my shopping online instead. But I still buy normal books some times anyways. Because I do love books and the feel of them and the smell. But for the most part, it's easier for me to have a kindle. With it, I never had to stop reading despite the fact my body not exactly being happy to do it for long.
My Kobo was a grad gift from my dad! I use it mainly for free classics and for library e-books. It's awesome. I've only bought a few books for it (mostly Doctor Who books I can't find in stores and a few books when they are on a really good sale). I find it very hard to pay almost full price for a book I won't have a physical copy of.
i used to have a nook, my 4 yr old has stolen that but i use my tablet with the nook and kindle app when i travel. i feel the same way about only buying books when they are on a great sale. if im going to spend that much money i at least want the option to put it on my shelf
Robyn wrote: "if im going to spend that much money i at least want the option to put it on my shelf"Exactly!
I am so an ebook junkie!! I bought a Kindle Fire a year ago and LOVED it!! Then my children learned how to buy apps and play the games so it eventually became a struggle to read. So then of course I got mad because I could read so I purchase a Kindle Paperwhite and it is know my most prized possession. I do not leave the house without it ever!!My favorite thing about ereaders is that I can read faster than when I have an actual book!!
So on a different note I just want to say I am so excited for today. We woke up to about 17 inches of snow so we get to READ most of the day!!
Wow 17 inches of snow! I am so jealous. Where do you live? I have lived in nc and va and have never seen that much snow. I love snow days have fun reading!
Wow, Sheena! Lucky you! It is in the mid-60s here in Southern Illinois...not winter-like at all.Julie, I remember back in 1993 there was a blizzard in North Carolina (where I'm from). I was 8 years old and we had about 2 ft. of snow where I lived. Probably the best time I've had in snow...EVER!
I'm in South East Idaho. We haven't had this much snow in two years. I only remember that because I brought my premie baby home the day we got snowed in!!Ashley, I am so jealous.. 60s that is flip flop weather for sure!! My husband laughs because I keep my fire hot so we can wear our summer clothes in the house! :)

I have Les Misérables on my list of first books to read when I retire. I've tried it before and could..."<
Gone with the Wind is a pretty quick read (of course I didn't think so in high school when I had to read it!) as with any long book there are some parts that drag. I really enjoyed it last time I read it about 10 years ago.
