Adriana, it's a sad and a happy day! haha. ;)
Happy New Year everybody! What are your plans for the evening?
I'm going to be having a quiet night at home with my family. :) So interesting, right? lol.

No reading, but I'm pretty happy with my 146 books for the year. Not quite my goal, but Megan's right. I'm going to enjoy the holiday. And a new goal starts tomorrow!

I was traveling for Christmas, so I'm going to mail these to family as a belated holiday treat.

I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Christmas!! We are actually celebrating the New Year with a new puppy that is coming home today. My kiddos are super excited but I wish this mom would get there!!
Happy NEW Year and happy Reading.

Happy 2013 and as always, happy reading!

I am a one-book at a time person, too, Diane. I tend to make piles of books or arrange them on my bookshelves in the order I want to read them.

I spent New Year's Eve with my family watching college football bowl games. Then we watched the ball drop on tv. Nothing too terribly exciting.
Today, my husband and I made the 8.5 hour car ride from North Carolina back to Illinois. (I already miss NC!) However, there is nice pretty snow on the ground!
I'm ready to start reading tomorrow....after I get unpacked and take our Christmas tree down. :)

In Times Square, they do this big NYE celebration, and they have this giant, lit up ball that they "drop" on the count of ten as it hits midnight.

Am I the only Canadian who does it, tho??

I add to mine all the time (and it has all the books I own but haven't read yet), but I use it regularly.

I've had "Can you hear the people sing?" stuck in my head for 3 days now! Mostly because I can't stop listening to it. xP

What books do i read? All depends on the mood. The last couple of weeks was all over the place.

and i'm now onto....

Also, Les Mis was incredible. The music gets me every time. I can't listen to the soundtrack without crying because the movie was so good and powerful. I cried for most of the movie, not just at the sad parts, but at how great the music was. Kinda dorky, I know, but go see it!

I'm definitely going to see Les Mis. I love the book, I love the musical, and the preview looked amazing.
Speaking of books turned movies: is anyone else super jazzed for Anna Karenina?

I'm planning to see the Hobbit soon. All of my kids saw it and enjoyed it. I am also concerned that three movies are being made from a 300 page book, but have been told the same thing that Kelsi said - there's more elaboration and it works. I love the LOTR trilogy, so I plan to see the Hobbit regardless and decide for myself. I guess that's what most people are doing since the IMDB ratings are lopsided. The public rates the movie highly while the critics have been harder on it.
I planned to take my daughter to see Anna Karenina when she was home for Christmas, but the timing didn't work out. I guess I'll wait for it to come out on dvd.

I loved all Peter Jackson movies on Tolkien and I am a true Tolkien fan since my mother was one and passed them on to me at the age of 13. There was a failed attempt on the Lord of the Rings movie back in the 70's in NY but Peter Jackson is a great director and we also have to consider that all directors have creative licence to adapt as best as they feel the books they have loved. Life of Pi by Ang Lee is another example of magical adaptation on what could be done on a wonderful book. I guess it all boils down to the director. Personally I never compare a book with a film for I believe it is almost impossible to "to by the book". The word is too powerful. Good night everyone and nice reads to all. Thank you.

On another note...I have just started watching episodes of Downton Abbey. Can you say amazing!? I have a feeling I will be reading some British Lit here soon, haha.

Because we are an awesome group! :) Plus, I think a lot of people were setting their goals for the new year and saw this group as a way to keep track.

There's a buddy read of Les Miserables in July/August that's nearly 1,500 pages long! That would work :)

I'm pretty sure the only book I've read over 1000 pages would have to be

I've heard a lot of people saying they might read / or are reading

Maybe I will find someone to borrow it from and attempt to read it over the next couple of months - July/August may not work for me

I have Les Misérables on my list of first books to read when I retire. I've tried it before and couldn't get through it. Same with Anna Karenina.
