mussolet (sovotchka) | 615 comments I like it. But that could be because it's green. And there are books in it.
Also it makes it easier to see which ones you haven't read.

message 152: by Toni (new)

Toni | 234 comments I don't mind it. But then again I like the color green. :)

message 153: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I like the color green as well. I actually like their aesthetic--I just really bothers me that it doesn't match the rest of the site. And I don't care for the term "Want to Read."

message 154: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 766 comments it´s too big!

message 155: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Kempkes (ashleykempkes) I basically hate only the fact that you can't type in the bookshelf you want to pick. I have a lot of bookshelves and don't want to have to search through them all to find the one I want.

message 156: by Ashley (new)

Ashley I like the idea, but the buttons are too big. To randomly go on the page and see big green buttons is a bit overwhelming, haha. I would rather the button say "To Be Read" or something.

Green is my favorite color, so I don't mind the color.

message 157: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments The button is too big and doesn't match the site (in colour and wording). Plus I will miss not being able to type shelf names :(

message 158: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) I will admit that when I opened Goodreads this morning I loudly exclaimed my hate for the button. lol. But it's really not that big of a deal, I guess. I liked what it was before, and I hope that they aren't planning on making everything oversized and green to match them!

message 159: by mussolet (new)

mussolet (sovotchka) | 615 comments What also seems to have happened is that when you re-order the books on your shelf by date read or added, they now immediately go to the most recent date first, instead of the other way round. So I don't have to click twice anymore.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but I think that is very neat :).

message 160: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Omg. I think that's AWESOME. That has always bugged me. Thanks for pointing it out, Silver!

message 161: by Kara (last edited Oct 22, 2012 08:26AM) (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Everyone at work knows I love books, and while this is great, it means I'm constantly being given new (business) books to read.

This is my ridiculous list of books:
Lessons of Experience: How Successful Executives Develop on the Job (mentor)
Strengths-Based Leadership (previous manager)
Political Savvy: Systematic Approaches to Leadership Behind-The-Scenes (previous manager)
Analytics at Work: Smarter Decisions, Better Results (manager)
Competing on Analytics: The New Science of Winning (manager)
Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done (manager)
Judgment: How Winning Leaders Make Great Calls (manager)
The Art of Persuasion (manager)
The Ten Commandments of Public Speaking (manager)
The Basics of Project Evaluation and Lessons Learned (project management group)
Leadership and Self-Deception: Getting Out of the Box (coworker)
Lean Solutions: How Companies and Customers Can Create Value and Wealth Together (lean group)

What books have you been given lately to read? Will you read them?

message 162: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) My brother has just recently gotten into reading (a dream come true?) and so every book he reads and likes is being given to me as "suggestions", which really just means demands! haha. I don't think he understands that I have a list of 500 books to read already!! ;)

He's read almost every Sherlock Holmes book, and wants me to follow in his footsteps. Then there's Life of Pi which he keeps wanting me to read. A few more too, but I don't remember all of them.

message 163: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carrie_s) | 130 comments Random question: is anyone else having trouble logging into Goodreads? I haven't been able to log in from work in more than a week? Is my employer trying to tell me something? :-)
Oh, and Trevor you definitely need to read Life of Pi. I loved it!

message 164: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments If you can't log in from work but can log in from home, you might want to try clearing your cache.

Other people appear to be having a similar problem, and you might want to post in this thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Nathan (nthnlwly) Carrie wrote: "Oh, and Trevor you definitely need to read Life of Pi. I loved it!"

You're the third person to tell me that! I should get on it. haha

message 166: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Make it a fourth. I also love it!

message 167: by Kelsi (new)

Kelsi (essentiallybooked) | 751 comments And fifth. It makes you think, and think, and think some more. Also the movie is coming out in Dec. I believe :)

message 168: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Oh boy! lol - is it quick?

message 169: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I think it is. I've even seen it classified as YA in some bookstores (which I think is wrong, but hey).

message 170: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carrie_s) | 130 comments Thanks Kara, I'll check out that thread. I haven't actually tried from home (just from my phone), but I did clear my cache and that didn't seem to help at work.

Trevor, I found Pi to be a quick read the first time, because I wanted to see what happened, and a sloooooow read the second time, because I was trying to figure out what the heck just happened. :-)

message 171: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Haha, that's a really good way of putting it, Carrie! I'd have to agree with that assessment.

message 172: by mussolet (new)

mussolet (sovotchka) | 615 comments I now want to read "Life of Pi" really bad. The problem is, I bought it in another language to give me an incentive to learn it. It will take me ages until I know what has happened ;).

message 173: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) I own it already! I'll read it in December to round out my year. :) Thanks for the encouragement! Now I can get my brother off my back. LoL.

message 174: by Carrie (new)

If you read it in another language, especially one in which you are not fluent, you will be my hero. What a challenging task! Good luck!

message 175: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carrie_s) | 130 comments Kara wrote: "So Goodreads seems to be kind of imploding with hate around the new "Want to Read" buttons. What are your thoughts?"

Just noticed this comment. I'd have to say I'm agreeing with the hatred. It seems to be completely blocking me from logging in through my PC at work. My Mac at home is working fine, but everything I'm reading indicates that the "Want to Read" button is the culprit for my problems logging in at work. I'm off to post on another thread to see if there's any indication of a fix coming soon.

message 176: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Hope everyone's having a great weekend! Anyone dressing up for Halloween?

message 177: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Kara wrote: "Hope everyone's having a great weekend! Anyone dressing up for Halloween?"

My family always hides out in the basement watching movies and eating cookies all night on Halloween. We're so un-spirited! LoL, but I love our Halloween tradition. We turn off the porch light so no kids come to the door. No harm done.

message 178: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carrie_s) | 130 comments I'm not dressing up, but my kids dressed up as Wonder Woman and Supergirl for a Halloween festival today. They were adorable!

message 179: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Carrie, did I ever mentioned that I was named after Supergirl? :)

I went as Medusa to a Halloween party last night. I threw a bunch of snakes in my hair (plastic toy snakes) with bobby pins and wire and chose to go the "modern" route so that I could wear regular clothes. It was tons of fun! I just need to figure out if I should wear it to work on Wednesday or if I should just go as myself.

message 180: by Kelsi (new)

Kelsi (essentiallybooked) | 751 comments I LOVE Halloween! I was ketchup and my boyfriend was mustard. I can't wait for the actual Halloween night, because I plan on watching Hocus Pocus. It's a tradition at my apartment! I also get my LSAT score back on halloween. How terrifying!

Kara - That's awesome! That's much cooler than the Hollies song that I was named after. :-)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Don't forget to vote in the Goodreads Choice Awards! Click here: http://www.goodreads.com/award/choice

message 183: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Wow, this list really made me feel like I didn't read enough books published in the last year. Hmm. I guess there's still time to remedy that. Did anyone get good recommendations from the nominations?

message 184: by Nathaly (new)

Nathaly | 356 comments I have added so many books to my list!

message 185: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Reading Challengers! If you're looking for a good cause to help victims of Hurricane Sandy, First Book provides new books to schools and homes where books have been destroyed: http://bit.ly/SFVAst

I've worked with them before, and they're a great organization.

message 186: by Nathaly (new)

Nathaly | 356 comments Can't believe Thanksgiving is barely a week away!! What are everyone's plans?

message 187: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I'm going to Vegas. It's a family tradition. :)

Johanna | 766 comments No thanksgiving here in Finland :)

message 190: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments I'm not sure if there's one in the UK. In primary school we used to have to do plays about it but I don't know anyone who celebrates it.

message 191: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Canada had Thanksgiving in October!

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments I know. I'm lucky as my house is a little higher than there but in some places it's 3-4 feet deep.
