I just finished Alys, Alwaysby Harriet Martin
and have some ambicalent feelings. On the one Hand I thought the writing was beautiful but the plot did little for me and it had a rather predictable ending.
Hi just finished
and I enjoyed parts of it but found the overall story a little predictable. I have a better understanding of Greek modern history now though.
I recently read The Fault in Our Stars which was one of the best books I've read this year. Seriously, I plan to read everything John Green has ever written as a result of THIS BOOK!
I really liked The Fault in our Stars too but it's not my preferred type of book. But it was really well written and thought out.
I just finished Before I Sleep by S.J. Watson. Very good debut, and I think (hope) she will only get better.
Love the One You're With by Emily Giffin 3 stars. I didn't enjoy this one as much as Something Borrowed, but I still liked it. For Chick lit, I think Giffin does a good job. Normally, I can't stand the genre, but her books I actually enjoy. I will read more of her in the future.
I just finished Calling Invisible Women by Jeanne Ray and while I enjoyed this and rated with with 3 stars, I though her three earlier books were much better.
Sara wrote: "I just finished Before I Sleep by S.J. Watson. Very good debut, and I think (hope) she will only get better."Sarah I enjoyed that one too.
I finished Shadowfever last night (the fifth book in Karen Marie Moning's Fever series) and I'm walking in the air. It was addictive, exceptionally well-thought and written. Everybody should read this series! I think I might be ruined for other books...at least for a week or so. Here are all the books in the series, get a move on and start reading! It's about fae.
Just finishedThe Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson. A very different book written about madness (including scientology!) from a journalist point of view.
Also finished The Murderer's Daughters which I thought was an interesting concept, and I devoured the book, but it wasn't deep enough for me.
The very last one was My Memories of a Future Life by Roz Morris - one of the most entertaining of the "modern" books I have read this year.
Ive just finished [book:Death Comes to Pemberley|12875355. It was a very interesting book. I really enjoyed the plot and the characters. It tried to stay true to Austen's idea of the original story while adding something of its own and took the next step into the Darcy's lives.
I've just read Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire.
I liked it until I read some bad reviews which were saying that this book doesn't give a good message to readers and it's about an abusive relationship but people just can't realise. Now I don't know what to think about it.
Maybe I am too voluble?

Books are a very personal experience, and nothing will please everyone. I think you should review the book based on your own reaction to it -- then, when you read other's reviews about it, you have already written your unbiased review. You can always go back and revise if you feel like it.
I haven't read Beautiful Disaster yet, but it's one I've been hearing mostly good things about.

You're right.. nothing will please everyone. We all have different tastes and different reactions to everything.
Thanks for answering, I will follow your advice :)

Just finished The Loom (free book on Amazon) and it was actually really good. Except for the ending I thoroughly enjoyed it. I feel like the author didn't know what else to do so he just wrapped it up as quick as possible. Really dissatisfying. I am now reading Men-ipulation: A Memoir of Addciton and Recovery and it's going quite pleasantly.
I would just like to add that
was a major disappointment. I had such high hopes for that book and it didn't meet par at all
I just finished
. This is a very good historical mystery, set in Regency period London. This book is not for the faint of heart. Graphic violence, and SC. It has everything a good mystery needs though. Intrigue, a love story, secrets, lies, and a even though I thought I had figured out who was behind the murders, I wasn't sure until the end. There are more books in this series. I am looking forward to more Sebastian St. Cyr.
Just finished The Last Letter from Your Lover and it was an easy yet very good read. Five stars and would recommend it.
Sarah wrote: "Just finished The Loom (free book on Amazon) and it was actually really good. Except for the ending I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've never heard anyone describe a book on recovery and addiction as going quite pleasantly. Thank you Sarah, you're a joy to read.
Just finished Eragon for the second time. I was surprised by how much I missed the first time around. Paolini is full of wisdom as always.
John wrote: "Just finished Eragon for the second time. I was surprised by how much I missed the first time around. Paolini is full of wisdom as always."I really wanted to enjoy Eragon... so many folks that I know really got into the series. I couldn't finish it, but blamed it on being my first audio book and thought maybe it was the medium.
Well, I just finished reading a Property & Casualty Insurance book for work, but I'm not going to count that snooze fest. ;)I believe the last book I read before that was Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness. It was amazingggggg. I loved all the books in this trilogy despite them not being anything I imagined I would be interested in. I couldn't stop reading and would go from 8% to 79% on my Kindle in one night because I just couldn't stop. And then I'd say, "Well, I might as well finish it since I'm this close" and stay up until 2am.
hey guys. a few days ago i received an advance reader copy (i believe that's what it's called) for a book that's coming out sometime in december from what my dad said. it's called Dream Caster by a new author named Najeev Raj Nadarajah and lemme tell you, that book was just offfff the hoook!!! it was fantasy and paranormal and mystery and young adult and post apocalypse all blended in together to make a great, great read. i normal won't say this but you guys all have to check out the book when it comes out. its gonna be the next best thing i found him on FB so if you think this story might be for you, add and keep up to date... i can't wait for the series to comt out

i just finished
. This is one of the best thrillers I've read in a while. I am adding Jo Nesbo's other books to my wishlist! The author skillfully puts you a position of seeing the events about to take place. You want to scream at Harry. I was so frustrated. It was like watching an accident about to happen and you are helpless to stop it. I highly recommend this one to all lovers of mystery/thrillers. Just don't read it right before bedtime.
The Last book I finished was Amazonia and Hanging Hill
This was my first book from James Rollins.. Loved it...
Hanging Hill was good, but did not enjoy it as much as her other book Birdman

Thanks. I'll try it.
Last book I read was
- I really really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down. Very well-written, great imagination on part of the author, and lots of twists and turns. Highly recommend :)
I just read Three Hearts and Three Lions and enjoyed it very much -a classic from the 50's for anybody who likes history and mythology.

I loved this book when I read it years ago and was anxious to reread it. I love William Goldman, he's a great writer, of both novels and screenplays including 'Marathon Man', 'Butch Cassidy', 'The Princess Bride', 'Magic', 'Heat'.
Anyway I HATED the main character this time out! I think now we were always meant to hate him but I didn't see that before. This time I found him so full of self-pity I could not stand him.
However. Goldman is a great writer. And there were parts of the book that were as riveting as ever and he can make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and that is no small feat!
I may reread his book, 'Control' soon. I remember that protagonist as being a lot tougher.
Sigh...

I finished the Animal Farm and loved it. Small, compact, precise and very Aesopian dystopia. I loved it!And the last phrase, my god, it just killed me...
Just finished
. The book was amazing. This is one author who does not disappoint. This is his third book, and I found it gets better...
Just finished Of Men and Monsters by William Tenn for sci fi group, gave it 3 stars. It was an ok read. A bit like The Burrowers only with aliens.

It is a good premise and sounds like a good read. It is something I would have liked to read, oh well, so many more books out there. lol

they were great reads. Once I start a series I have to read all of the books in that series. The books aren't nothing like the HBO Trueblood series.
Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James -- just terribly boring, flat characters. First time reading James, hopefully next time will be better.
I just finished Ecery Day by: David Levinathan
and i was really disappointed with the ending. the boy should have tried to stay w/her and see how it went but did he?
Noooo, he had to leave her and move to another country.
The last book I read was a book my friend is trying to publish about a Monster Hunter and the Apocalypse and spirits jumping from body to body awesome piece of fiction especially for a 1st published if and when he does get published.
The Little Russian by Susan Sherman -- excellent read!! (5 stars!)Berta as a child lived with a wealthy Jewish family in Moscow (salons, balls - all upper class) but returned home in her teens to her family (being a grocer's daughter, lower class.) She falls in love with a handsome, smart, cultured wheat merchant and they live affluently -like her childhood. But trouble comes and her husband must flee. He desperately tries to convince his wife that she & the children must leave with him, but Berta refuses. Russia plunges into war and she loses everything, and realizes that she much find a new way to survive. Meanwhile her loving husband in America is doing everything he can to get his family out of the country and to America.
I liked the beginning. I wasn't thrilled with the middle. I really liked most of the last bit. It was really hard for me to review. I'm not sure I understand all the hype of it, but I still ended up liking it more than I thought. It took a couple days for it to sink in that I actually enjoyed it. I don't think I'll be running to see it though - I'll wait for it to come out on dvd.

I like it, especially the ending where each individual sees the way they want.
Just finished When the Siren Calls .. it's really well written, adult, intelligent, a sharp and at times witty insight into rich banker types and their bored wives n lovers. The great thing is that the writing is excellent though. I wrote a more detailed review about it.
I spent about an hour this morning and read The US Constitution & The Bill of Rights. I thought that it was a good time to re-read it before the new members of congress are sworn in. I have read The U.S. Constitution several times and each time though I am amazed by how simple, yet powerful this document is.
