Still a 5-star favourite after a re-read is Kate Atkinson’s fourth Jackson Brodie book, Started Early, Took My Dog. He just can’t help helping to make up for past tragedies when he was too young to help.

My favourite so far. It was time to leave Three Pines (at least for a while), and from the moment that Francoeur arrived at the Abbey, I had anxious dread in my tummy....
