Mikki I was out for most of the day and only got to start reading around 4. I can barely think straight. I'm going to try and read these last 4 Bolano stories tonight and then finish up the trilogy tomorrow.

Next week I'm not reaading at all--I'm just going to write reviews and give my eyes a rest. :)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4052 comments Have fun, Maria.

I am going home for the weekend, I will try to read some during the travel but once I am home, I will have to bid goodbye to books in lieu of a few precious hours with family.

Happy reading everyone. I will post updates on Monday once I'm back.

message 303: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments XD I leave and everyone tarts talking about me. Now in the KL airport waiting for the plane.

I'm reading one book at a time, except now I have an old and borrowed book being read. One on the iPod one in hard copy.

One eye at a time, and I don't know how but I'm not getting confused at all. Hamlet is Hamlet, Cyrano is Cyrano, Dorothy and Mimi are two completely different people. Perhaps if they were all romances (actually, definitely) I'd get mixed up, but all the books are distinct and different.

Another secret is... No responsibilities for the week, and a strand ability to force myself to finish a book I don't like.

Excuse any misspellings, as I'm on my IPod Touch. Good luck all!

Snoozie Suzie (snooziesuzie) | 937 comments Enjoy yourself Maria. *waves goodbye* Fantastic job on your points - looking forward to seeing your final total.

COME ON TOPPLERS! One last push to really topple those Tipplers who I'm sure have been pushing themselves to topple us off the top spot. I'm hoping it's going to rain today so I can read, and listen and knit rather than feeling like I must do some gardening.

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Ugh after a few too many drinks with the football (NOT of the tea variety), I didn't wake up until after 12. Gotta get my reading shoes on!

message 307: by Mintymedley (new)

Mintymedley | 60 comments I just got home from a very long night at a friend's house-party. I think I slept less than an hour on his couch. It is 6am here, I saw the sunrise for the first time in a very long time.
I am glad I got George Washington's Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation done yesterday between massages. It was a fun little read. I have no idea if I will complete my enchilada with the time remaining. When do we finish our totals?

Mikki Didn't get a lot of reading done yesterday -- attended my little neighbor's school play ... awwwww and ran errands. Up now, however, ready to battle this to the end.

message 310: by Tajma (new)

Tajma I'm 100 pages away from my enchilada and trying to figure out how to get some more bonus points on top of that. I think I just have to be satisfied with my contribution. Just too much to do! :-(

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Acckkkk - I just figured out why I've been losing momentum the last few days. I've been so focused on tea that I forgot about CHOCOLATE! I've got to go get some to keep me going! Come on Tipplers - get some chocolate to go with your tea :~)

Janice (jamasc) | 60043 comments Ouch! That point spread hurts, even more so since I slept in until 11:00 this morning. (unheard of - NEVER sleep in till 11) I may be giving up my enchilada for a lobster since I'm headed to a lobster boil this afternoon.

message 315: by Robin (new)

Robin | 263 comments I'm a lurking tippler...but I don't drink tea so I can't help you with the tea points. Now if it was coffee I'd be good. haha.
I do think I'll finish The Summer I Turned Pretty in just a bit. Less than 100 pages. As far as the other book...:sighs: I don't know. I'm on part 6 of 11 in the audio book of The American Heiress. That is probably several hours of listening time still.

About half the tea that I've drunk is iced tea - I already drink a lot of it, and it's easier to pick up when I'm on the go too. Plus there are SO many nice mixes of iced tea - normal tea, green tea, white tea.

message 318: by Mintymedley (new)

Mintymedley | 60 comments I also did a facepalm when I realized Iced Tea was still tea. I have some really great Vanilla-bean loose tea that I got from Scooters. It is delicious iced or hot. I think I will go make some.

message 319: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11470 comments Main-lining tea, soaking up the sun outdoors under a great tree with my feet up, hanging out with Sis, and reading what will likely be my last book of the Toppler Event.

Going for completion of a Trilogy and a second helping of enchiladas!

message 320: by Robin (new)

Robin | 263 comments Don't like iced tea either...I have drank hot tea before when I had a sore throat...just not any this week. LOL

Good news I finished a book! So I'll have that to report a bit later. I'm not sure if I'll count it as Something Borrowed (library) or Something New. I'm going to see if I can finish another or how far I can get in the other book.

message 321: by Sue (new)

Sue Finished another old book, A Pale View Of Hills. Now going to read The Summer Book which, it turns out, also qualifies as an old book.

I didn't know that you are in Michigan. I grew up on the western side of the state, and I went to U of M. I miss summer time on Lake Michigan.

message 324: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I finished my 2nd enchilada and have started The Ballad of Tom Dooley: A Ballad Novel. I'm about 1/4 of the way through, and it's good enough that I'll probably finish it in the next 12 hours - deadline time. Just made some more tea, and have that and chocolate chip cookies to keep me going :)

message 325: by Robin (new)

Robin | 263 comments Just posted my first and probably only report! haha. A whooping 6 points! wooo!!! Unless I finish The American Heiress audiobook it will probably be all I report. If I do get that finished, at least I'll get more than 1 point for the page count...since I think it is over 400 pages. :) I do believe it is actually possible I could finish it...I just wouldn't get very much sleep if any. hahah. :/

I may go to the thread tonight just to read through and say I've finished it. But I really feel I have to think about this one. Not sure how I feel.

Finished my final book for this challenge at the stroke of midnight with The Summer Book. Will add it to my list and consider writing reviews, but I think that will be tomorrow.

I'm tired and well-read and actually looking forward to the next toppler, whenever and whatever it is. I'm also re-thinking my ratings on a couple of my books now that all the reading is done. I think a couple may need to be boosted up 1 more star.

Thanks Judy and Janice, in case I'm too brain dead tomorrow to say it!!

message 328: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Finished Tom Dooley and listened to a short collection of dog stories. Will post final points when I wake up later today (4:30am now), otherwise I'd probably end up with a few extra points (accidentally, of course), or lose half of my existing points :)

This has been so much fun!!!

I feel the same way. I thought it was ambitious for me to get in one enchilada, and I managed two, plus an additional book. It helped to listen to audiobooks as I spend a lot of time commuting and have started to pack for a move. The problem with audiobooks is that they take longer than reading the book. But, I still managed. Amazing what group goals can do!

message 336: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments I'm here, in Johannesburg, having just updated my totals. ... I'm stunned at the amount of reading I've done, and I just wanted to thank EVERYONE who embarked on this Toppler, or came up with it, and all the Topplers and the Tipplers, who really made me push.

(Argh, I sound like I'm giving an acceptance speech.)

Ahem. Thanks! It was FANTASTIC. I've got more story ideas than I know what to do with after 7 days of enforced reading with no writing allowed. XD Looking forward to writing them all!

Travel updates:

We're all in Johannesburg, safe and sound. It's cold, but we're alive between shivering our toes and fingers off, which I suppose is good. It's the middle of winter here, which sounds terrible but is true. Plane trip was uneventful, layover in Saudi Arabia was... enjoyable and a learning experience, etc etc etc. We're all good, and are adjusting to the 6 hour time difference for the night before taking off early tomorrow.

Reading updates:
3.25 enchiladas read.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED! YOU ARE AWESOME!

message 337: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) My brother happened to have a new YA library book available for me, so I'm off to add some points to my scorecard. I didn't read anything big or heavy, but I got a lot of TBRs toppled off my shelf, and had lots of fun. Thank you, Judy, all!

message 338: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments It's really annoying, audiobooks. I found that I can generally read something in about half the time it takes an audiobook to read it, and my particular app wouldn't let me speed up. I also don't have a plethora of activities to do without an audiobook, and I used them this toppler more when I couldn't (or shouldn't) keep my eyes open-- for example in the plane, when the air was being blown straight into my eyeballs. And on top of this, I'm a visual person, not auditory. I get distracted and miss out on bits and pieces which I don't deem worthy rewinding 30 seconds for. Audiobooks are great, and they force me to listen to every word in a way I normally don't (I read for the story), but they're definitely not conducive to fast reading.

message 339: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Just a couple more minutes and then we can bring out the confetti!

Glad to see you were able to check in, Maria, and get your updates in.

Yep, It is the cooling off with Iced Tea that has made the difference, especially on the week-ends, while outside.

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments I'm glad too!

message 342: by Robin (new)

Robin | 263 comments I stayed up late listening to The American Heiress audio book, but to finish it completely I would have had to get up earlier than I really wanted to...I figured I still had approximately 2 hours of listening to do in the a.m. or maybe like 1 hour 1/2...even so I just gave up. haha. ah well. I did finish one book, and technically I finished 2 (just couldn't count the first one because I started it last week). It was certainly fun to participate. :)

Especially when none of them were related :~) That was smart of you to do. I think I'll wait til tomorrow to try and sort them out.

There's still so much I want/need to read this month. Books for other groups, ones I started before this week, YLTO monthly read, and year long challenge to finish. Might get started tonight, but need to go catch up with other groups first.

After all this reading, does anyone else still feel behind for this month?

Probably have to have Mexican for dinner to celebrate, and a large Coke Zero (oh how I've missed you)!

Maria, I'm amazed at your ability to participate so fully while on the road. I guess we really are becoming much more global these days. And I agree that audiobooks take much longer to complete than reading. But, they are great for long drives, housework, painting, or packing.
