You are right, Jaxnsmom. Per Judy. doubling doesn't include pages. :)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Dad's up and I can't sleep because of his laptop light... he says he's shutting off in 5 minutes. Would have loved to have known that 2 hours ago!

Enjoying The Grey Fairy Book in the meantime.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I know I've been drinking tons of tea, so GO TIPPLERS!

message 154: by Snoozie Suzie (new)

Snoozie Suzie (snooziesuzie) | 937 comments Bought myself some Lady Grey yesterday. Normally go for English Breakfast, or Yorkshire Tea (brand) whose tag is 'a proper brew'. Just had another cup whilst waiting for the washing machine to finish as I need to hang it out as its bigs work shirts.

Not had a v good reading day as I've been suffering with my vertigo, and my sister and her kids and my mum visited. Am continuing to listen to Diary of a Nobody. Although I'm not really enjoying it.

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Oh Yorkshire Tea - my personal favourite! Every time someone I know goes to the UK I always ask for some. I also have it shipped over several times a year!

message 156: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Listening to The Folded Earth: A Novel and The Ice Queen. Will start reading Winging It: A Memoir of Caring for a Vengeful Parrot Who's Determined to Kill Me when I get home from work. Tea consumption low today. The place I usually stop had too long of a line :( But I did find some chai tea bags, so I'll have one or two cups.

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments I've finished The Immortal Rules - surprised that I managed to read all 485 pages over two days whilst working!

Now moving onto a 'modern classic' in Carrie

I love Yorkshire decaf. Strong with one sugar. With a hobnob preferably. Bliss.

I have updated my total points for today as I know I won't be finishing any books nor drinking any more tea. Tomorrow I'm going to finish
The Diary of a Nobody. Then, I may start another new, or part 2 of my trilogy. Choices, choices.

Anyway goodnight all - I'm going to read a couple of chapters of The Whipping Club before I nod off. Happy reading and COME ON TEAM TOPPLER :-)

You're such a reading machine. How many 15 minute work breaks did it take? :)

Goodnight Suzie!

Sue I've begun Walk the Blue Fields: Stories, a book of short stories. As you may guess, this is for the "Something Blue". I hope to finish tonight. Also continuing to read Someone Knows My Name (at 125 of 470 pages).

Hopefully the massage I had this afternoon won't make me too sleepy to read.

message 161: by Tajma (new)

Tajma Started Bed today. It's so depressing (not to mention disgusting) that I should get double points! Definitely Something Blue.

Oooh, Is Foster included in that collection?

I've just started A Pale View of Hills for my Something Blue and Taj seems blue about her choice, so we're all in a Blue state of mind.

I'm going to try and finish, Where the Dog Star Never Glowsfor my Something New, if not, I'll finish up both by tomorrow evening.

Are we still reading The Street of Crocodiles tomorrow or holding off til Thursday? What's best for you?

Taj, it says darkly funny, no? It's just dark?

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments I'm up! Not sure how 5 hours of sleep will help me, but it's quite silly to think that'll stop me.

Will now go read.

Good job, Topplers!

EDIT: ALso borrowing my sister's iPod today to read some books... I'm not going to have all my books going into 'something old!'

message 165: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Sister doesn't wish to lend iPod, seems to have changed her mind. Will be borrowing Kindle, perhaps, for some Jack London or beg to use it for an Oz book, in short spurts.

message 166: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Going to finish watching "The Colbert Report", and head off to bed and read a while. Not too crazy about the book I'm listening to at work, but I'm going to finish it after investing over 4 hours in it today.

I've started reading Winging It: A Memoir of Caring for a Vengeful Parrot Who's Determined to Kill Me and almost spit out tea within the first few pages :)

Very dark, but excellent. Nothing funny. I thought it would be darkly humorous but I was wrong.

Thanks for clarifying that Judy. I was pretty sure the page points had nothing to do with the category doubling points.

message 169: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Almost done with THE WIZARD OF OZ, but I don't think I'll keep reading, since there's many other books much more interesting, and, in the end, this is like a rather descriptive fairy tale.

Also reading What Were We Thinking, which is FANTASTIC, anout 25% throughe

No Foster isn't in the collection so I'm going to look it up online. I actually just sent a message to you about Street of Crocodiles. I've been reading all evening.

message 171: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Finished The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I'm also reading The Heart of Darkness off my sister's iPod, after which I'll read either a Shakespeare play, (Julius Caesar comes to mind), The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, or The Alchemist. Either the Shakespeare or the Alchemist will put an end to short books for this Toppler (a bit annoying that they're all under 300 pages! Luckily nothing under 150 pages, which would make me really sad, because I'd feel bad about reading so many short book).

7.5 cups of tea (drinking from waterbottle, which holds 2.5). I'm certain that the cleaning lady believes I have some sort of serious disease... I'm tromping down the stairs every hour on the hour. XD

FORWARD, TOPPLERS!

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments YES!!! I've completed The Whole Enchilada!!!

Happy dance :D :D :D

message 173: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Congratulations, jaxnsmom! *claps*

EVEN if you're on the other team. XD

I think I'll stop at 10 cups today... I feel a sore throat coming on from so much swallowing!

Should finish 3 more books today... will be VERY happy.

message 174: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Thanks Maria. You're really knocking down the books, and your page total is crazy! Are you reading every minute you're awake?

After this I'm either going to have herbal tea every night or never want to see another cup of tea again. I'm sure my manager at work wondered why I kept getting up (to go p). I think I need to switch to herbal at work too - might as well make it healthier and doesn't seem to affect the bladder as much :p

message 175: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Er... guilty! We're lucky(ish) in that my parents found a lovely hostel with good internet and peace and quiet... also I was sick the first two days (terrible to be sick, lovely to have a perfect reason to stay inside).

Also, not much to see in Kuala Lumpur that we haven't seen in other locations, unless it costs too much money for us to want to go (Petrona Towers). HENCE, schoolwork for the siblings, and I get to read ALL. DAY. Quite possibly the best June EVER.

... I would definitely love to not need to go to the bathroom all the time! Trouble is, only Lipton Yellow Label Tea is downstairs, and my parents already think I'm nuts, so I won't be saying, "Hey, I want special herbal tea!"

And besides... this way I get off my butt and do something! There are 20 steps in the building. I go up them at least 10 times a day. It's perfect. Of course, the entire hostel thinks we're crazy because we're not sightseeing, but that's another story.

message 176: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Other than the sick part, sounds great. But slow down and take it easy - wouldn't want you to overdo it :) That's the Team Tippler advice! But do get enough rest - don't want you getting sick again.

*Big yawn* It's 4am here, I've got to get to bed. Thank goodness I don't have to be at work until 2:30!

message 177: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments definitely when I start hating tea I'll stop tdrinking it... but I could live on books and pork fried rice... so not planning on stopping until I've got at least 3 enchiladas finished AND that Nelson mandela tome!

Sleep isn't likely to come, unfortunately, unless I'm in bed at 10 and no one plays any music. THIS time, though, I'll know better! I'll saty up and read... can't get worse than it is!

Sleep welL!

message 178: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Finished Heart of Darkness.

Going to finish The Grey Fairy Book.

12.5 cups of tea.

Sore throat from all the swallowing of the tea.

Still 3 more hours before I make myself stop reading and sit down to reviews.

message 179: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Each day (3 days in a row) I've managed to drink 11 cups of iced green tea. I just have been sipping all day long. It's refreshing. I may have to keep pitchers of tea in my fridge from now on.

message 180: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11470 comments Seems that every book that I pick up is blue! Although I am counting them for other ingredients in the Enchilada, I am keeping a note of their "blueness", in case moving them to a different category will count for more points.

Did not feel well at all Tuesday and thought I would miss a day of reading, but I listened to The Gates while recouping in bed.

My "Westlake strategy" seems to be failing, since I am favoring my Fforde Trilogy. Headed for Lost in a Good Book

Great progress Tipplers!!!

almost 20 cups of tea downed.

... I hate swallowing. Anything.

message 183: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2363 comments I finished The Dark is rising yesterday so that's too down (finished Auschwitz: A Doctor's Eyewitness Account the day before) so onwards with Papillon (my second something blue) and Full Dark, No Stars, which is my first something new :-)

Oh and still knocking back the tea like there's no tomorrow...strangely though my work colleagues don't believe my tea drinking has increased which means I evidently drank a lot anyway...not sure how worried I should be about that...

I know what you mean. I never realized how many blue books I have on my TBR pile. I have a couple books in reserve that correspond to multiple categories. One of them is new, blue, and borrowed and another is old, blue, and borrowed!

I want to finish my 'new' book, but I'll go ahead and put some points up now in case you want to start totalling.

Perhaps, Judy, you could take a bath in tea! (joke!)

EDIT: Sorry, I'm sick and tired. I just realized I sound terrible.

I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER! Poison ivy is no fun!

Wendy | 22 comments I'm a rookie and this is my first Toppler. I am loving it! I just retired from 30 years of teaching elementary school and have been looking forward to some quiet reading time. This challenge is definitely helping me knock some titles off my TBR list!

message 192: by Maria (new)

Maria (aminowrimo) | 463 comments Glad you love it so much, Gastoryteller!

WOW... 30 years of elementary school! I fondly remember my 4th grade teacher... but I can't imagine how she put up with us.

Have to say, I'm glad you're on my team! Keep toppling those books!

Paused a bit to Skype for the first time with a friend ... we had a fantastic conversation for all of 46 minutes, and now I'm racing to finish the last 13% of my book before my mom explodes. XD

Dang that poison ivy! Glad you're going to get it taken care of, Judy.

There will be a change (and delay) in the point system. Judy is going to track the Toppler Team's points, and I'm going to track the Tippler Team's points. So patience with us as we switch.

I'm reading a trilogy too and have the same question. I asked my mom about it, but I think she forgot, so I'll have to ask her again and find out.

message 199: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Almeta - I hope you're feeling better today. I think all my books so far could count in three categories. It is funny how many blue ones there are.

Oh Judy, so sorry about your run-in with poison ivy. Hope you found some relief! You could always use it as an excuse to soak in an oatmeal bath (isn't that supposed to help with itching?) and read, or let your mind drift to a tropical island.

Sam - maybe being aware of how much tea you're drinking makes it seem like more. Are you sneaking something in it to make it go down smoother? :)

Allright Debra! Way to go. Be sure not to let your books get wet when you float away after all that tea :D

Gastoryteller - With this group and the Topplers, your reading time may not be as quiet as you think. This is my second Toppler, and they are the best fun. I'm trying not to look at the books yet, but after this is over I'm going through the posts again and I bet I'll be adding a few to my TBR (seems rather counterproductive, doesn't it?)

Yay Maria! Doesn't finishing the Whole Enchilada make you feel comfortably full? :D
