Mark of the Lion trilogy is my favorite ALL-TIME biblical fiction (though not a biblical story--it's set in New Testament times) and runs a close second to Redeeming Love for favorite read ever!

message 216: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah I don't really like biblical-times fiction. That's why I've been putting off reading them...

message 217: by Mesu (new)

Mesu | 34 comments Hahaha! Well, I can understand that! I'm reading a fantasy YA right now that's not exactly my cup of tea. ;) But you might give Francine's Mark of the Lion a shot. The romance will draw you in...

Which fantasy YA are you reading?
Yeah, I might go ahead & try it.
Have you read the A.D. Chronicles by Brock Thoene & Bodie Thoene?

message 219: by Mesu (new)

Mesu | 34 comments I'm reading Prophet by RJ Larson. I actually LOVE biblical, and this was close to biblical and in a new genre for me, so I thought I'd try it. It's really pretty good! Ha!
And, nope, I haven't read A.D. Chronicles. I'm not a big Thoene fan. I'm not sure why. I read a couple of their books early on and didn't really enjoy them. I should try again...

I've heard of it, but never read it...
I love the Thoenes' books! Well, except for the A.D. Chronicles -- never could get into those, but several of my friends really like them. :)

Anastasia Rose (Anastasia69Rose) I love Francine Rivers! Her Mark of the Lion books are among my favorite (well, the first two, the third wasn't as great in my opinion). She amazes me with her depth. Her Redeeming Love is great too, and The Last Sin Eater!

message 224: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia Rose (Anastasia69Rose) Hey readers! If you're looking for a good Christian suspense/romance series for Christmas gifts, all three books in the Stolen Series (international human trafficking--a story of hope!) are Amazon Bestsellers, and are on amazon, kindle and nook!

Since you started it Sept 28, you probably already know how good it is:) I loved it and the 2nd one, The Rook (The Patrick Bowers Files, #2) by Steven James Haven't had time to read the next one yet, but looking forward to it.

message 230: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Brink (bikerbabs) | 6 comments I'm reading Deadline (Ollie Chandler #1) by Randy Alcorn by Randy Alcorn right now, but apparently I'm reading out of order cause I read Deception (Ollie Chandler #3) by Randy Alcorn some time back. I think they are both great books but I listened to Deception on audio CD while traveling and that was a great story with so much humor with the wise-cracking homicide detective, Ollie. It definitely gave me 11 hours of terrific entertainment.
I think there is a third in the series, but can't remember what it's called.
Has anyone else read this Randy Alcorn series?

message 231: by CarolynB (new)

I agree with you, Kimberly; As Sure as the Dawn (Mark of the Lion, #3) by Francine Rivers As Sure as the Dawn wasn't as good as the first two Mark of the Lion books. My favorite of the three was An Echo in the Darkness (Mark of the Lion, #2) by Francine Rivers An Echo in the Darkness. Have you read her series, Sons of Encouragement Five Stories of Faithful Men Who Changed Eternity by Francine Rivers Sons of Encouragement: Five Stories of Faithful Men Who Changed Eternity? I loved them, especially The Scribe Silas (Sons of Encouragement, #5) by Francine Rivers The Scribe: Silas.

And right now, I'm reading The Open Gates by Thurman C. Petty Jr. The Open Gates, althought I'm disappointed that it hasn't whet my appetite for reading the other books by Thurman C. Petty Jr.. Not to say that I don't like it. It's just not quite my type of book. I'm hoping that it'll get better when Cyrus finally takes Babylon.

I agree with both you and Kimberly on F. R.'s Mark of the Lion Series. I'm interested to know more about The Open Gates. Is it anything like Tessa Afshar's Harvest of Rubies? I loved Tessa's book.

message 242: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (dragon57) I have read The Pawn and that whole series by Steven James. Love it! I have his newest that just came out, Opening Moves, which is a prequel that I can't wait to get to. I have recommended it to a lot of folks and they have all enjoyed it too.

He has a new series that comes out in November.

I'm not sure, Mesu. I haven't read Harvest of Rubies. Mainly, The Open Gates is strictly based on the biblical account of the prophet Daniel during the reigns of the kings Nabonidus, Belshazzar, Cyrus, and Darius. It's very detailed, though it was quite hard for me to get through the first almost-half of the book, as I'm not very interested in the battle strategem's the author described. But now it's starting to get better.

Thanks, Evy! I'll add it to my TBR list. It sounds a little like Day of War. His book on David's Mighty Men was heavy on battle scenes, and I found the story a little hard to engage until closer to the end. Thanks for the new title!

message 246: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia Rose (Anastasia69Rose) Right now I'm reading/editing my latest book on human trafficking. I love reading books I'm halfway done with because I don't quite know how they're going to end! =)
