Tim | 8539 comments Sounds like you need to hijack Mary then... ;)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments I have a wifi iPad but it's deaf. I need to be standing pretty much on top of the transmitter for it to work. Just spent 24 hours at my parents house. They have wi-fi but though my lap top picks it up in any room in the house my iPad can only do it in one room. So yes I do but can I guarantee it will work? No.

Cheers

MTM

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I believe that my iphone can go online. But I've never tried.

Jim | 21813 comments Come to this thread for cutting edge technology and in constantly being in touch on the move :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments That edge couldn't cut butter!

message 2456: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Trailing edge more like!

message 2457: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments isn't the trailing edge the one that gives the lift?

message 2458: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments You know all about it if it get stuck in the lift

message 2459: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments There's a question for you in the introduce yourself thread, Jim.

Great blog post again, by the way.

Gonna go find it on Facebook so I can share it.

message 2460: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Jim wrote: "isn't the trailing edge the one that gives the lift?"

Not really. Lift is a complex combination of angle of attack and airfoil shape, and a healthy dose of Newtonian physics.

message 2461: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No it's isn't.

It's a mixture of fairy dust and fervent prayer.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Depends if you are doing it in theory or practise.

message 2463: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments And it's a bit of a misnomer anyway, as it is the reaction to the creation of a loss of air density & pressure, and would be better termed 'Suck'

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yes, but 'lift' is classier.

message 2465: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I prefer suck.

message 2466: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments yeah, it should be called 'push' (stand behind a spinning prop or underneath a helicopter and tell me that is "suck"... ;))

message 2467: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Stand in front of the prop, and you might think differently Tim....

message 2468: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Hehe, I'm not stupid... ;)

message 2469: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh Jim. Do download the medieval book, please.

I'm learning all about building cathedrals.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Go to Barcelona and finish that one off then!

Jim | 21813 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "Oh Jim. Do download the medieval book, please.

Remember I've still not got anything other than the desktop to read it on yet, and looking at the price, it's actually pretty cheap second hand paperback :-)

message 2472: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Then buy the manky paperback!

message 2473: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Well the Kindle edition is £5.03. I can get the paperback secondhand 'very good' for £2.81

message 2474: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Order it.

I just finished a great chapter on medieval books.

message 2475: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments There's no way I paid £5 for it. It must have been on offer at some point.

message 2476: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments I always buy whichever edition is cheaper (even hardback sometimes!). Some people price their ebooks way too high!

message 2477: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Dunno about people, Tim. Publishers certainly do.

Tim | 8539 comments 's what I meant.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Where you going Mary?

I have no idea what that meant, Tim.

Tim | 8539 comments my typing is on the fritz?

Kinda loses its potency when you have to explain it! Ho hum!

message 2485: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments France. Alsace. See the Gumbee Fantasy Writers' Guild page header? There. Lovely hotel, with pool. Should be fun. Not much internet access though as I'll be taking the iPad only so unless we're within about 5ft of the hotel's wi-fi station, I won't be able to pick it up. There are a couple of blog spots popping up while I'm away. I've done Katie's silly and sensible questions blog, although it's difficult to tell which are the silly questions and which are the serious ones.

Cheers

MTM

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments I also did something for Rosen's current project which was well scary because that's playing with the big boys and girls ;-) proper authors there.

Cheers

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I wonder if our fritz talk is completely PC, Tim. ;)

That sounds glorious, Mary. I've still not been to France. :(

Oh! Like your typing! I got there in the end!

message 2488: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments This feels like the transit lounge a an international air terminal. I get this overwhelming urge to lose everybody's luggage for them just to help make the experience feel authentic

message 2489: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Bet you wanna charge us all £3 for a bottle of water, too.

message 2490: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Well if you want to drink the cut price water go ahead, but frankly I think you'd be better paying £8 a pint for the lager, with complementary peanut.

message 2491: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments And you say you're no good at marketing.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Does the peanut say nice things about the lager?

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "Does the peanut say nice things about the lager?"

As Mr Pratchett once said 'Note spelling.' :)

message 2494: by Jim (last edited Aug 02, 2014 04:39AM) (new)

Jim | 21813 comments A man walked into a bar and sat down, and ordered a beer. As he sipped the beer, he heard a soothing voice say “nice tie!” Looking around, he noticed that the bar was empty except for himself and the bartender at the end of the bar. A few sips later the voice said “beautiful shirt“.
At this, the man called the bartender over. “Hey…I must be losing my mind,” he told the bartender. “I keep hearing these voices saying nice things, and there’s not a soul in here but us.“
“It’s the peanuts,” answered the bartender.
“Say what?“
“You heard me,” said the barkeep. “It’s the peanuts … they’re complimentary.

message 2495: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I once saw a shop offering complimentary medicine. Mind you, I always feel better when someone's nice to me!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I got in trouble at work for sending round emails about the stationary order...

message 2497: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well you wouldn't want it whizzing around. Someone could get hurt.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Specially if its for drawing pins!

message 2499: by Richard (new)

Richard Martinus | 551 comments True story: a colleague sent an email with an attachment to some secretary asking her to forward it to her boss. Came the reply: "The attachment got lost first time. I resent it." It took quite a while to calm the colleague down.

Email is a dangerous thing.

message 2500: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments So is a little bit of literacy :-)
Hang on, paranoia kicking in, why are we all standing round on my author thread talking about howlers and misspellings!
Are you trying to tell me something :-(
