There's a whole genre of SF that will probably never be added to"

Darren Humphries is doing well on that score and I'm doing my best, too. All that stuff is a huge influence on me along with all those 60s TV things like Randall and Hopkirk, the Avengers and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Ah those were the days.

Lord I just said "those were the days" without a trace of irony! What's wrong with me?

Cheers

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I recall watching Space 1999 religiously and Planet of the Apes. What was the one with the twin spotlights at the beginning?

Tim | 8539 comments Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons!

Did anyone ever see the 2-man stage show? It was brilliant, had me utterly creased up. It was a mash-up between Thunderbirds & Captain Scarlet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5g-lL...

Yes and I agree it was awesome! That's the one with the hats right, where he has TB2 on his head and he's holding these ridiculous little palm trees.

Cheers

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Right, we're off into Naphlio for lunch and to buy a few bits to take home.

Buy a few bits, I mean bottles of ouzo.

message 2411: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments With Greece being a bit behind the times, they might still sell Thunderbirds stuff.

Keep an eye out Patti.

message 2412: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments That's the one. They had the puppet walk completely off pat, and little things like the hat mike boom dropping just by moving his index finger had me in stitches. Oh, and the rising water peril that kept going back down to his knees every time they cut back to it. Brilliantly observed!

Yeh, I laughed a lot, quite loudly and I think most of the audience thought I was a plant.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Good review. I thought beauty-in-ruins was a comment on you! Not fair, I thought. ;)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Jim, Athens is HOT! Betcha it's mid 40s. We managed to wander for only a couple hours before having to come back to our room to take refuge.

It's really awesome, though. Can't walk for more than a couple blocks before coming across fallen down stuff.

We've just gotta get up stupid early tomorrow and walk the big hill before it's too hot.

Pics on Facebook after I've I had a nice, cooling shower.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Drooling.
At the thought of the pics, obviously.

Slowly making preparations for going

Really ought to write stuff as well, but it got so hot and I've been hijacked with other stuff

message 2440: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Jim, you and Mary should do a roving reporter thing for my launch event - give us all the Loncon scoop...

(the wifi connection will almost certainly be better than you have at home!)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Is be happy to give it a go... At least to try and do something.... Apart from raining K'Barthan Trilogy bookmarks onto the proceedings.

Jim | 21813 comments Remember that as my desk top computer will remain at home, this would involve me making a 550 mile round trip every night to put in my reports and I'm not entirely keen

message 2443: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments So, t'other night I was reading a really good novel that was keeping me awake, t'was so good.
So, I decided I needed to read something dry and boring so I'd nod off.
So, I started reading Life in a Medieval Village.

It's super interesting. Kept me up til like 3am. I think you'd like it.

Well they CAUSE a lot of rage. At least mine is getting annoying...

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Is phone rage a recognised disease now?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I think there is everything rage. Well maybe not sheep rage...

message 2450: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Tim wrote: "Do you not have one of these modern telephonic/tablet devices with the camera attachment? I'm told they're all the rage... ;)"

We don't have mobile reception here. So my phone lives switched off in a drawer until I venture forth into an area which has reception (but not when I'm working because the life expectancy of a phone in my work trousers pockets is going to be low). Even when I travel it normally stays switched off because nobody has the number or will phone me (because it's always switched off on a drawer, and anyway if I'm travelling I'm either driving or busy in which case I don't want people phoning me.)
I'm not going to pay whatever it costs a month for a phone, just to have it live switched off.
So my phone is a cheap Nokia which cost £25 with £20 of credit, which I top up when I need it.
I put £20 a time on in, most years :-)
