Daphne Chennault (daphnech) | 68 comments Hello everyone, I'm Daphne, from Maine. I've enjoyed fantasy for many years, especially Butler, Zelazny, Chalker, and Melanie Rawn. Fantasy and Sci-Fi is,as Roger Zelazny once said, not about monsters or aliens, but about people and possibilities.

In recent years I have also joined the ranks by having my first novel published by Pink Flamingo, an erotic fantasy entitled Super Submission--a super heroine book.

My second book, Chief-Thief will soon be published, also by Pink Flamingo.

Kristina Carpenter | 1 comments Hi, I'm Kristina. I'm 33, and can't remember a time when I didn't read. I'm not the best writer, but I'll do the best I can. I live in Georgia (the state), have 3 children, and am happily married. I hope to discover a bunch of new books, and maybe some new friends.

I have to say, Kristina, that I have enjoyed this group more than any other book club I've joined. I'm reading books I would not have heard of if not for VF, and the members are awesome.

Lissa (aroguespirit) | 10 comments Greetings! *Waves* ^_^

My name is Lissa, I am from Phoenix, Arizona and I have a newly developed obsession with fantasy romance so when I found out that Felicia had a book club centered around it I had to join. I actually saw it on her t-shirt in the "What would happen if everyone on Earth jumped at once" video she made an appearance in and I thought it said "Original Fantasy" not "Vaginal Fantasy" so that was a fun surprise that made my roommate and I crack up.

More about me... hmmm, I am premed(alternative)and my aim is to be a Naturopathic Physician. It has been a ride, In high school I earned my Massage Therapy Certification and at the end of the year my License, I received my associates degree in Holistic Healthcare and my BS will be in Alternative Medicine at the end of next year. I have some prerequisite classes I need to handle and then off to med school.

I am a gamer and have been since a very young age but since gamer is such a broad term I will clarify how I am a gamer. I have been playing consul games since I was old enough to hold a controller and I started on Atari but was later introduced to games like D&D(12 years), 7th Sea(16), and World of Darkness(16) and I even joined the Minds Eye Society when I turned 18 and had started attending regular games when I had my own vehicle.

Mostly, my goal in life is to have fun and try and make sure everyone around me is also enjoying themselves.

That is me in a nut shell!

Lissa

Catharine (missmanaged) Hello all, I am Catharine from northern California, and I just discovered the Vaginal Fantasy videos thanks to my techie daughter, who insists on dragging me in to the computer age. I'm 51 years old, and consider myself an original fangirl as I've been geeking on Star Trek since it's first go-round, and have been reading sci fi and fantasy since I was sneaking it from my mom's collection as a child. I kind of got out of the genre in the 90's/00's but I'm back now, having found Gaiman and Mieville, who are current favorites. I'm looking forward to reading along with you all!

Stephanny Dawn (stephannydawn) | 4 comments Hello everyone. My name is Stephanny and live in the smallest do-nothing town in West Virginia. I'm 23, married, and have a daughter that turned 2 this past April. I'm a stay at home mom who is attempting to write as much of a novel as I can in my spare time. I've been following Vaginal Fantasy for a while but this is this first time I'm actually going to be participating with the rest of the group.

I've been an avid reader and gamer for as long as I can remember. Read any genre, play "almost," any genre. I mainly stick to fantasy when I read, and it's not too much different in the games I play, that being RPG's. I used to be a console only gamer for years, but that's change and now I'm almost strictly PC.

I'm really looking forward to being part of this community, it's lovely to meet you all.

No, I'm not in charge, but courtesy dictates that newcomers be greeted and made welcome. ;-)

Nora | 2 comments Hello everyone!
I'm Nora and I currently live in Alaska but I grew up in Northern Minnesota. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and love doing anything outdoors.
I love reading and since I travel a lot I think the Kindle is the greatest thing. However I still enjoy a real book now and again.
A friend of mine recommended this group and as soon as I saw Felicia Day and Bonnie Burton I was sold. I'm looking forward to reading thru all the forums :D

message 565: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Hiya! I'm Mandy who formerly would never read anything labeled "romance" but reformed when I wised-up and realized life's too short NOT to read as many different types of books as possible.

I really enjoyed last month's He, She and It and I'm looking forward to this month's selection and gabbing with you all!

Fun Fact: My first romance genre foray was a gem called Lady Hobo by Beth Brown from 1935 which features a strong female protagonist. (Purchased for the hilarious title and cover art, stayed for the feels.)

message 566: by Levi (new)

Levi | 11 comments Hello Mandy,
I am kinda new as well. Ok, truthfully, I have been lurking here on the VF goodreads group for a really long time.
I feel like I have to read Lady Hobo by Beth Brown after your brief description.
Nice to make your acquaintance.

message 568: by Yuvi (new)

Yuvi (_yuvi) | 3 comments Hello all! I'm Yuvi. When I was young I was never a reader, I was busy playing outside with my brothers. I've always been an avid SciFi/Fantasy movie viewer and I thank both my grandma and mom for that. I started reading when I was 22 through comic books. The first book I ever read from cover to cover was A Brave New World and the first series I've ever completed was the Harry Potter books hehe. I enjoy reading now and I find that I do judge books by their covers. when I'm at a book store it is the covers that grab me first. I am currently reading Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series as per recommendation of a friend. I've read the first book and I fell in love with Jamie as most readers probably have :) I'm reading the second book right now and I'm enjoying the Starz show.

I am looking forward to reading the September pick and participating on the discussions for the first time.

Gina Briganti | 78 comments Hello, Yuvi. I look forward to reading your thoughts in the discussion threads. I'm going to read the main pick for September.

Ashley (rowennara) | 17 comments Hi! I'm Ashley, I'm almost 30, I live in southwestern Michigan with my husband and two girls. My husband is a bookworm, so is my 6 year old...I used to read occasionally, now I'm appreciating books more than ever. I haven't given much thought to the Romance genre, I've been more into Fantasy. DragonLance always captured my attention. I like to get whisked away. The internet just doesn't do that for me anymore. I prefer an actual book instead of reading off of a screen-something about fondling pages and the smell of the paper.

message 571: by Gina (new)

Gina Briganti | 78 comments Hi, Ashley. I find so much fantasy in the romance genre that I'm thinking you may not be too far out of your norm. The August book, "He, She and It" was much more fantasy than romance.

Hi Ashley! I am 30 and I HAD to reply because I am also a MAJOR DragonLance fan (at least of all those Weis and Hickman). It's always fun to meet other DragonLancers!

I'm with you on being reluctant about the "romance" thing but as Gina indicated my fears were quelled by the first suggested book I read: He, She and It from last month which was no more a "romance" text than were any of the DragonLance Chronicles/Legends texts.

message 574: by Paul (new)

Paul Gibbon | 6 comments Hi, everyone. I'm Paul, I'm 33 and from the UK. I've read romances for quite a while--but if I'm honest, it started out as a way of getting hold of sexy reading material in pre-internet teen years. More recently, reading the books by the authors of the "Smart Bitches, Trashy Books" blog, and their arguments for romance as a serious literary genre, got me interested again. I stumbled across the VF videos through the Geek & Sundry site, and was quite quickly hooked by the mix of funny banter and sharp insight.

Writing is also one of my hobbies--I started when I was a teenager with some stuff that's mostly as dreadful as you might expect. Recently, I've dabbled for a few years in an online forum for round-robin writing (two people agree to do a story about X together, and take turns posting a few paragraphs that advance the plot, before handing it back), which I've found to be great fun, and a chance to throw some out-there ideas at the wall, and see what sticks.

More recently, I've been trying my luck at writing full-length stories , and recently submitted one (which I'd describe as swords & sorcery-style fantasy with strong romantic elements) to a publisher. In general, I'm just fascinated by the process of writing--developing plots & characters, gathering ideas, making scenes come to life & convey a mood, and forming a plot from scattered ideas.

My other occupations include miniature wargaming, roleplaying games, climbing mountains for charity once every few years, and lately, jobhunting (redundancy was what finally kicked me to start writing seriously, on the plus side).

Debra Caldwyl (debra_caldwyl) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Debra, and I'm just learning how to use Goodreads. I've roamed the forums for about a year now, but this is the first time I've had the courage to actually post something.

I am a big fan of Felicia Day, which is how I found this group. I could go on and on for paragraphs about the sheer awesomeness of her body of work, if awesomeness is an actual adjective. The video review of Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel's Dart" had me hooked from minute one.

I am a World of Warcraft addict ahem make that veteran (can you say seven priests), and I love to read and write about nerds in love. I am always looking for a great new book, so I look forward to participating in this group.

message 577: by Kay (new)

Kay (darlinbooks) | 6 comments Hi everyone - I'm Kay. Longtime goodreads user, first-time group user :) I absolutely adore fantasy/urban fantasy/PNR, but have been rather focussed on YA in recent years because of the blogosphere. I'm hoping that this so-NOT-a-teen group will give me somewhere to talk about adult books AND to make sure I get more of them onto my TBR list!! :)

Otherwise: I'm twenty-something, write for a living (not fiction - that's not my gig) and live in Switzerland (not Swiss though - hardly anyone here is).

In terms of favourite authors: Patricia Briggs and Ann Aguirre, hands down. God, those two are brilliant. I horde their books out of fear that I will run out.

Sarah Aubin (sarah909) | 3 comments Hiya! I'm Sarah, 18, my first year in college, and I found this group via the geek and sundry page :p I love Felicia Day and I listened to her playing games and one of vaginal fantasy casts and I loved it. I had to join, seeing as I love to read these types of books. I do game, mostly at the moment Diablo III and waiting for Destiny. Just busy with college, to be honest :p It's so nice to meet everyone <3

Linnea (robotmaria) | 81 comments Hello everyone! I'm Linnea, 24, from Sweden and I'm currently at uni studying nanoscience. My studies keep me pretty busy, so I haven't had time to join the book club reads and discussions here before (though I've been a member of this group for a while). This month, however, I've been reading A Discovery of Witches. I might not read the picks every month, but I'll join you guys here in the forum whenever I have time (and I'll watch the hangouts of course). :)

message 585: by H.A. (new)

H.A. Kotys | 21 comments Hi all, nice to e-meet you.

For several years, I've written for fun for myself. I've read a lot of fiction and always thought that I could do that and sometimes 'I can do better'.

Thanks to the encouragement of friends, I finally took the plunge and self-published after they insisted my work had to be shared.

Scary at first, as the first sales started to tick up, scared changed to excited. Having been out less than 2 weeks, reviews are starting to come back and it's so encouraging that people are loving it!

So now the next three books in The Written Pictures series are being prepared for release - they've already been written but need the usual dusting down and sprucing up.

The first book was out 11th August and is called Descent Into Darkness. It features strong female characters you can believe and connect with according to reviewers. :)

message 590: by Reyna (new)

Reyna Pryde (reyna_pryde) | 1 comments Hi All!
Writer, reader, & lover of fantasy. I just joined the group this week. As you can see from my profile, I am what most used to consider a 'nerd', although now my likes fall in the 'cool' category. My love of reading picked back up (I loved it as a kid) when I was around 19 with comics. Fan of Star Wars, Joss Whedon, & addicted to paranormal romance/urban fantasy- both reading it and writing it. I also have an addiction to TV and the list of shows I watch is quite ridiculous.
Big fan of Felicia Day. It is hard not to love her! I hope to find some good books and fun convos here in the group.

message 591: by Gina (new)

Gina Briganti | 78 comments I haven't thought of us as classy, but we are, aren't we! You get points for noticing. Welcome to VF!

message 592: by Mandy (new)

Mandy So how/when do we know what the upcoming month's selection will be? Is it not posted until the first or is there somewhere I can look to figure it out beforehand? I'm trying to keep on top of it with my library searches/reservations.

Thanks!

message 596: by Raya (new)

Raya (rayaha) Hello all, My name is Rayanne and I am also one of the book geeks who is always afraid I will run out of good authors to read! I'm a mom who is happy to have to say to her 8 year old girl "it might be easier to get a glass of water if you put the book down first..." And my 6 year old boy loves all things Marvel and Batman and Star Wars (but only the originals, cause we're not heathens) :)
I'm a gamer currently playing Destiny, but really waiting for Borderlands the pre-sequel and then DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION - very excited. I love that in this book club Garrus (from Mass Effect) gets mentioned for guys they'd like to 'date'.
I found vaginal fantasy from the Geek & Sundry site, I was getting board-game recommendations from TableTop.
The ladies make me laugh and I love having a glass of wine (or 3) and listening to them talk about the books, super fun.
Thanks ladies!

Neni Hello, my name is Julia from Germany and I really love books, sadly I've been busy with school lately and good books are hard to come by,but I've made a habbit to read at least once a day and am sure I will find many great books being in this group.

I also love cosplaying and gaming. Which I recently got my dad into as well.

I look forward to reading books with other great likeminded people.

message 599: by Christy (new)

Christy (betterbombshell) | 1 comments Hello, my name is Christy, and while I joined this group at some point a while ago, I promptly forgot about it. My defense: first year motherhood. But I recently discovered the Kate Daniels series, and after tearing through the first 6 this month, my husband pointed out tonight that Magic Bites was the Vaginal Fantasy book for September. So I'm super excited to join for real and participate and read read read. xo

message 600: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Hi Christy! I'm waiting for Magic Bites to become available from my local library's digital collection but I look forward to reading it, especially after hearing that you enjoyed the series so much (I've been avoiding the forum threads from fear of spoilers).

While also fairly new to VF, I've really enjoyed the community so far. Welcome!!
