Just think about it...oh my god...I already see myself. I would at least be the whole day there (as no gift card means already minimum of an hour to just browse all books first, then rewatch them but start to look for the ones that interest you, then first round of eliminating, second round, thirth round and after an hour pushing myself to choose between the still to big amount), walking around, holding, choosing, taking and smilling the whole day.....paradise......

message 303: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I tell my boyfriend that we can meet somewhere in about an hour, like a game shop. Last time in Edinburgh I asked if he was okay with waiting an hour while I looked and looked and tried to decide. It was my birthday present so he said yes.

I have been thinking that maybe because he saw that for more than a year I have been doing really well regarding books... don't know.
But great to know I am not the only one doing that.
I also have problems not to let noises escape from my mouth.....

message 304: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hehe, I do the same thing. Luckily, Thomas is an artist and there is an arts & crafts store nearby, so Thomas goes in there to feed his addiction, and I can feed my own in B&N.

message 305: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Jeane and Fiona-My youngest son and I went the bookstore last weekend. We said goodbye to my husband at 2:30. We got home at 6:00. He started out to the car to collect the groceries he assumed I had bought, but alas... only the bookstore! I don't think he really believed us!

Well, now your husband knows better than to think such a silly thing. ;)

message 307: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) How did you train your husband to just automatically go out to the car?? I practically have to beat Thomas with a shoe with a nail in it to get him out to help!

*cries in agony*

WAHHH.

message 311: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Me either Emma. I feel your pain... I was sorely tempted by my boyfriend yesterday, but I withstood the temptation and prevailed!

It will be worth it in the end, when we can finally buy a book and read it without the guilt of knowing that hundreds of unread books are staring at us forlornly. *nod*

message 312: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I haven't brought anything in a week! whooo hooo! I stopped printing Border's coupons and I put my blinders on when walking past any books. I had the little book fairy whispering today at me in Target, but shushed her!

message 313: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Fiona, I hate that! I had that happen to me several times, but I think it's done now. (I hope.)

Good for you, Jackie!

message 314: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments I'm responsible for purchasing the English language books at the library where I work.
I wouldn't feel guilty for choosing books I like...... except I convinced the head librarian we need to buy all the Twilight books because I want to read them.
I mean they are also great for teenage girls, an important section of our readership, and the film is coming here soon and we do need the whole set because people are always complaining about unfinished series and.. and..

Just pathetic, aren't I?

Kandice Becky wrote: "How did you train your husband to just automatically go out to the car?? I practically have to beat Thomas with a shoe with a nail in it to get him out to help!"

I'm not complaining, mind you, but my husband believes men should carry in groceries. He does not, however, think they should have anything to do with purchasing, putting away or cooking them!!!!!

message 319: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments hahaha, well Kandice it is a start....

message 320: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Library books are allowed, right? I mean, you aren't paying for them! You probably shouldn't be allowed to incur late fees, though, so you would need to read it next! Get it Fiona.

message 321: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Library books are NOT helping to reduce your TBR pile though Fiona.

The book will still be in print when you have reduced your pile to a reasonable level. If it will NOT be in print (which I think is unlikely) then I'd say go for it, but otherwise stick to your goal!

message 322: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Here, we can order anything we want for free. They sometimes transfer from another branch, or even get a new copy, but WE don't pay for it. The only time I know of any library fees, are late fees. In England, do you have to pay for certain services?
I hadn't used mine in quite a while, but I finally found my library card last night!!! (in an old purse.) I would have had to use my children's!

message 323: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I try to only put book son my TBR I own. Do you think yours is self-replicating!?

Andrew (dad-man) | 155 comments I'm horrible. I just bought more books yesterday than I read last week, breaking my promise to myself. At this rate, I'll need a new freaking house to have a place for all my books.

message 328: by silvia (new)

silvia | 282 comments I keep failing. ordered a book online today. I knew I sould stay away from series...

message 329: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (dad-man) | 155 comments At least you have an excuse, with a series. I mean come on, you HAVE to finish it (unless of course it's complete crap). I don't even have that luxury. I'm just a horrible, horrible addict, and should probably find a group. =-)

message 330: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments You mean a group aside from us enablers of TNBBC? ;)

message 331: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I have partial series in my TBR mountain... Twilight is one, Percy Jackson is another, and Sookie #9 is coming out in May, but I am just pushing all of those onto the back burner. Once they are the only books I have left, I will allow myself to buy new books. *sigh*

I'll just have to stay away from Sookie threads so I'm not spoiler'd.

Yeah, don't count on this group to give you support on not buying. You've already seen how this thread has turned out.

well I just hope I'm able to buy or trade less.
that is good enough for me.

last year whenever I was having a bad day I'd conforted myself buyng books online. well its better for me that comfort-eating but still...

I jsut cant get to stressed out whit books I have to read, cause then there's no joy on reading

message 337: by DevonAlyse (last edited Jan 29, 2009 01:45PM) (new)

DevonAlyse | 75 comments I have to read all the books on my shelves before I can buy anymore.

But that doesn't work. One of the book stores in my area is going out of business...books for a nickel...how can you pass that up. And it's not like I'm spending, you know, $20 on a hardback...instead I'm spending $20 on 40 books!! Yeah, this could get out of hand...

Luckily my fiance, has promised a whole room for me to read in!! With built in wall mounted shelves for my books!!

message 338: by Kandice (new)

Kandice After my children have all flown the coop, I am turning one of their bedrooms into a "library". My father in law is going to build floor to ceiling bookshelves, and already knows where to order a library ladder. The son the room belongs to now can't wait because he loves books as much as me!

Jill (wanderingrogue) | 329 comments I bought The Audacity of Hope today. But in my defense, it is one of the books for February.

message 341: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I'm still doing good... Although I was at the store today and someone must have put super-glue in my hand because A Thousand Splendid Suns "fell" into my hand and got stuck!!

It was a struggle but I finally freed myself. And promptly hid the book behind some calendars so that they wouldn't MAKE me buy it because of the sticky-ripped-drooled on cover.

That would just be AWFUL. *deadpan* =\

message 342: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Ooh... I just calculated, and after I finish "The Reader" I will have read 10% of the unread books I own.

Not bad for only one month! If I can keep this up, I'll be feeding my book-buying addiction by October!

message 343: by [deleted user] (new)

I said on 29 Dec: No, I can't do a book-atorium, I haven't got enough raw material at home. BUT I have set myself a new year's resolution: I have to bookcross out more books than come into the house.

Well, I did okay: I joined the library, and for the months of Dec '08 and Jan '09 eleven books came into the house and 23 left. I gave myself a prize and ordered 6 from Amazon and will now start counting again!!
