Awesometastic! Yay! I hope you enjoy them. I hadn't even thought to check that myself. My library doesn't have Red-headed Stepchild either. It could be fun to buddy read Pride and Prejudice, one of my all-time favorites, or maybe Blue Dahlia or Slave to Sensation or The Scorpio Races. Or we could read Naked in Death if you get to it.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Penney I was a real slug-a-bed today, since the birthday celebration went 'til after midnight. For a 70 year old, my dad's quite the party animal. LOL. Once I got moving though, I really enjoyed looking through your shelves. I mainly pulled from your “to-read” & “wishlist” shelves, with a few new suggestions I thought you might like.

May is Loyalty Month - rec a book that is from a favorite author or series you love
Touched by an Alien by Gini Koch - I fell in love with Kitty and company the minute I opened this book. It’s a great start to one of my favorite series.
Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard - Linda Howard is one of my favorite authors and this book is just the right mix of romance, suspense and humor.

May is Graduation Time - rec a YA book
Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr - It’s been a while, but I enjoyed reading it. I still intend to continue this series at some point.
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver - I didn’t see this on your shelves, but I really enjoyed this book. To be fair, Samantha is not a particularly likeable character, but the story itself drew me in and I starting rooting for her to change and start making better decisions.

International Space Day, May 4 - rec a book that is set in an alternate universe
Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey - I fell in love with many of the characters and the court intrigue was wonderfully plotted. From one of my all-time favorite series, this book put Carey at the top of my to-buy list. I’m interested to see what she does with her upcoming UF book.
The Breaker's Concubine by Ann Mayburn - I’ve not read any of Mayburn’s books but this looked really interesting.

Join Hands Day, May 4 - rec an author your pickee hasn't read before or a genre your pickee normally doesn't read
Victorious Star by Morgan Hawke - I didn’t see Hawke anywhere on your shelves, but I definitely think this book would fit right in on your shelves.
Blackmailed by Annmarie McKenna - Another author I enjoy. The set-up may be a little convoluted and out there, but Cole and Tyler more than make up for it.

Tourist Appreciation Day, May 6 - rec a book that is set in a place you've visited or somewhere you'd like to visit
I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland!
Ransom by Julie Garwood - Garwood’s one of my comfort read authors and I’ve reread her historicals multiple times.
Blood Faerie by India Drummond - This book looked really interesting even though I’ve not read it myself.

National Teacher Day, May 8 - rec a nonfiction book that you enjoyed or a classic
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot - A very interesting book that blends the science of cellular research with the story of the woman it was based on.
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain - A wonderful time-travel classic.

Armed Forces Day, May 18 - since being in the armed services can be scary, pick a book that is a thriller or scary, or pick a book that is a military or special ops series
Whispers in the Dark by Maya Banks - Some people didn’t like the fact that Banks suddenly threw paranormal elements into a world that was previously free of them. I didn’t mind and can’t wait for Rio’s story in the next book.
Beneath the Neon Moon by Theda Black - This makes me wish I had an e-reader. I’d really like to read this book myself.

Maritime Day, May 22 - pick a book that would be a great beach read
Laid Bare by Lauren Dane - I read this recently and fell in love with the Brown siblings. I’m definitely going to buy the next book in this series.
Glass Slipper by Abigail Barnette - I haven’t read this author, but fairy tale retellings are some of my favorite stories.

Buddy Reads:
Clean Up Your Room Day, May 10
- rec a book that is one of the oldest on your pickees TBR list that you'd like to read as well
Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia or Love Slave for Two by Tymber Dalton
I don’t own either of these books, but I’ve seen good things about both. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll see if I can find a copy of one of them.

Chocolate Chip day, May 15 - Pick a book with a yummy cover
Too Hot To Touch (Rising Star Chef #1) by Louisa Edwards Too Hot To Touch by Louisa Edwards - This wasn’t on your shelf, but I put this book on my to-buy shelf last month and am willing to hunt it down if it interests you at all.

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Nelly - a good portion of the books that I recommended to you came off of your to-read shelf, which is (at least in my experience) where people want their books picked from. I tried to mix these recommendations up with some new to you ones. If you had previously read books that I had recommended to you, I would have no issues re-picking, but since that is not the case, I won't be able to - because I have no idea what your access to books is like.

message 237: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments Nelly - If your 'to read' shelf has books you cannot get your hands on, why don't you create an exclusive shelf to separate the books you have or can get easily from those you need to acquire by other means? Because otherwise it will be really difficult for anybody to give you any recs. We don't have any way of knowing which books you can get and which ones you can't. I know I'm very lucky that I can get around 70-80% of the books I'm recommended from the library but I know that's not the same with everybody.

Thanks for the great picks, Brett. I don't know how many I'll get to this month, but I've added several to my TBR shelf!

I definitely want to read Dark Needs at Night's Edge. And I'm thinking this just might be the month I finally try Lisa Kleypas. (I've been looking for an author whose name starts with 'L' for another monthly challenge, so thank you!)

I've got a bunch of other buddy reads already lined up for this month, so I'll have to see what else I can squeeze in between them. Let's get in touch after the middle of the month and see if either of us have time for a buddy read toward the end of the month.

Thanks for the great picks! I picked Mystery Man, then realized that my library (and the extended library) doesn't seem to have it. I requested it, so we'll see. I don't have a kindle if it's only on kindle. If I can't get that one, Dangerous Highlander looks like fun...I'll post when I figure it out. Thanks again :)

Thanks for the picks, Dawn. I'll definitely read Into the Fire because it can count for THREE different challenges! :-) I'll probably also give Driving Mr. Dead a try. Thanks again!
